I think I have old republic. Called them out one time last year when the ac went out. They came out a few days later and fixed it. $100 deductible. My only experience has been pretty good.

You say it's under manufacturers warranty. Why aren't you dealing with the manufacturer?

LOL I forgot I had a garage door claim as well back in December. The wall button stopped working and I called HWA

You could've fixed this yourself probably. Try replacing the whole mechanism on the wall. They sell them at home Depot and probably Lowe's. Super easy to change. Mine was 1 or 2 wires. Plug and play.

Those home warranties hire the worst of the worst in my experience. I had a similar experience at my old house.

You've got to sort of know what you are dealing with before calling. My AC "died" and we cashed out. Later the damned thing worked for another day or so. We had a REPUTABLE AC dude come out. He looks and leaves to get quotes. A few minutes later I hear a dude outside my house in the rain. He's out there. "You know these blowers have a second fuse? I just remembered down the road." 100 bucks. Warranty company sent a check for 2 grand.

Pro Move and advice for anyone with a home warranty:

When placed on hold or put in the answering machine loop at night or on a holiday, you need to say "EMERGENCY" over and over again until you get to a human. Pull out your home warranty info and write this down next to the number. You can thank me later.

I tried. I couldn't even figure out how to get it off the wall. True story.

Well I would have had no idea what the problem was if not for the a/c guy that came out. Also - the manufacturer only replaces the part. They don't pay for the labor and they don't pay for all the freon that leaked out.

I had HWA. Absolutely terrible.

Had to replace one of my condensers in the attic. In cost me $1300. I think I saved $250 by having the home warranty. Yo top it off, the shitty workers that did it, did not connect the drain line tight enough so I had a slow leak that eventually soaked my insulation and ceiling in my foyer and had to replace all of this, which took longer than expected b/c all of this happened a week after the flood so getting sheet rock wasn't easy. The shitty contractors refused to do anything about their mistake, so I changed everything myself and painted it.

frick that warranty, that didn't cover my doors, my drains outside, my gutters, my thermostat that broke, my fans that broke and the tub drain that didn't work.
This warranty was more hassle than anything else, and I had been better off without one.

Maybe someone already said it, but just take the cash out and get whomever you want to fix it.

more reputable of the warranty companies

They are nothing more than a legal scam. They really do not provide anything.

So how does this home warranty works? When you buy a house you actually buy a warranty in case something goes out? Why not call the contractor who built your house or getting someone to come out and fix it?

I have a guy, he use to work at an appliance store for years before it closed. Now he has another job and does repairs on the side. A few months ago I had a problem with the dryer. He came out had it fixed in 30 mins. It was a belt that had gone out, he had one in his truck. $75.00.

Does anyone get the warranties they offer when you buy appliances? A friend of mine bought a refrigerator. He had it for a little over a year, had the warranty. It went out, called wherever he bought it from, they sent someone out. They gave him a quote for home much it would be to repair it. It was like.. $100 less than what he paid for the refrigerator. He bought a new one and didn't buy the warranty. I don't think he has had a problem since.

I have American Home Shield. No issues. Fixed garage door spring, replaced air conditioner motor, etc. Fast and friendly. Matter of fact, I have an electrician scheduled through AHS to come in tomorrow to fix a bathroom vent/light.

Geez man. I'm not that handy, but this is too easy. It likely has 2 screws on it. One might be behind the button. Mine was. Take both screws off and then slide the whole thing up and then off.

I have American Home Shield and have had a pretty good experience with the quality of vendors they have sent out. Have had a few small issues with stuff like you have going on, but nothing major. Had the AC unit looked at and was very impressed with the company they sent out. Guess its just hit or miss.

I had the same experience with AHS...I can't say that it was entirely worth the money, but they were pretty easy to deal with, for the most part.
