Pan is bone dry..

I just talked with the guy who installed the outside unit a few years ago. He said capacitors have crapped out throughout the area recently. He believes it was from all of the storms/lightning strikes.

He's checking to see if he has it on his truck or I'm shite outta luck until tomorrow unless ACE hardware has it.

I have one i saved from my old unit but it chances of it being a match are slim
if know anyone with those little room ac units i would go borrow them so you can stay cool, or just go buy one they aren't much.

Home depot has capacitors. They are substantially cheaper than Ace. Relays can often get some crap on the contact points. Sometimes tapping them with a screwdriver handle will dislodge some dust or fried ant.

The float switch usually shuts down all of the fan and everything. You can dump any water in the tube, and try it. Also, on your outside drain pipe, put your shop vac on it and suck out any water and growing fungus in the line.

Put some of these in your pan every other month.

Sorry, Home depot has to have it shipped to the store for pick up. Worthless.

My AC guy says he has a replacement capacitor and will be here later.

His local to BR and it's his company.

I highly recommend his company American Mechanical Services.

So cheap to just replace the contractor and the capacitor. $50 bucks max. DIY.
Google troubleshooting the A/C and find a step by step guide that starts with the thermostat and steps thru everything. If it is not Freon related, you can fix it.

I like to post this in every AC thread.

Take time now to go get yourself a spare capacitor and contactor, too.
do this:

1. Cut power to your outside unit

2. Take off the outside panels to get to your capacitors and contactors. Get the part numbers off them.

3. Order spares of them from anywhere. (should cost around $40 for the pair)

4. Keep them in storage until you need them. Remember AC units seemingly only go out on weekends and at times when the temperature is 95+ degrees .

Yeah. I'm going to order some, but I'm SOL right now.

I believe I'm still covered under warranty.

That's all fine and good baw but you missed one thing. When his wife is standing there, bright red, hot as a swindled gypsy, he has to look at her and say "I am going to wait until I can get parts tomorrow to save $75."

He is going to man up, find a way to get it fixed before the weekend is over, and get the hero's reward tonight.

His A/C guy has the part. Game over.

Capacitor or your system is low on refrigerant and the low pressure switch is kicking on. I'm guessing the latter. $56 for a manifold gauge set at harbor freight and a good multimeter that can test capacitors and you could diagnose and get it running yourself for less than the price of a tech visit.

Dis right here.

Plus an hour to find and watch a couple of Youtube videos that superficially explain how to use the manifold and multimeter but probably won't tell you that you need to also measure superheat or subcooling. In the end, if you do diagnose low refrigerant, to "get it running yourself" you'll be calling that HVAC tech. If you don't "diagnose it yourself," or you diagnose it wrong, you'll be calling that HVAC tech.

Capacitor was bad.

My AC guy showed up, switched them out and everything ran perfectly.

5 year parts/labor and he had it changed in 5 min.

$0.

So, if you need a great AC guy in Baton Rouge, call Corey at American Mechanical: 225-733-4778.

It's spelled Core...

Wait.

Nah. I'm not him, but he's been a great AC guy for me these last 3 years.
