I wonder how common this is. Are there any statistics or anything?

That's a difficult situation for that guy. What do you do? Tell a kid that's known you as dad her entire life that you don't want to have anything to do with her now?
Parents is more about behavior than genetics. I know a couple that had a kid, the kid was not the father's son. he knew this at the time, but they were not in a real relationship just dating. She got pregnant, they got married and he raised him as a son. They have never told the kid, who is now at college.

Three adult cousins of my SO had the test - turned out all three had different fathers. One had long suspected she was different, but it caught the other two by surprise.

I wonder what the law says if your wife has another mans kid.
The laws in Louisiana were extremely fricked up in that regard.
You basically had to have a paternity test and disavow the kid by a certain age or you were fricked, whether you knew or not.
I believe the laws are starting to evolve on that issue though.

I would divorce and try to get the kid full time. Wouldn't even be mad. I could finally keep some of my money.

Curious as to why the kid was pushing so hard for the test

Holy crap. I can't imagine the anger I'd feel in that situation.
Would divorce and try to sue her for every dime I spent on her in the last 15 years.
As for the girl? I'd probably sue for custody and be honest with her. 15 years of my work is my kid, sins of the mother be damned.

That night she closed their bedroom door and confessed to a long affair with a man she had met at work. A paternity test, two months after their daughter was born, had confirmed her hunch - the little girl was not her husband's child. She had kept that secret for 15 years.
I wonder if the biological dad is aware he has this child (which is fricked up if he doesn't) or he just didn't care enough to be a part of his daughter's life (which is also fricked up).
