It amazes me how advanced the wold was and how it basically recessed for 1,000+ years then boomed.
Crazy to think how close they were way back then to having machines and power.

Hmm.

That's a really old pic, looks almost like civil war style photography. BBut the hats are really late 19th century/early 20th century.

So I would think Spanish American war.

A flag raising would signify captured territory..

either Cuba or the Philippines.

I'll guess Cuba?

Spanish American war.

Good.

Not that this is what you did, but I wanted to remind everyone the point of the game is to answer without doing any internet searching.

Now, Here's another....

1. What's this aircraft's name?
2. Why is this aircraft so small?

McDonnell XF-85 Goblin.

They wanted to carry it inside a large "mothership" aircraft, like the XB-35 or B-36.

ETA: Darth - I do search for concepts if I cannot remember the name such as "small USAF jet", etc.

And I review the wiki before I post to remind myself of certain facts.

That's the Goblin. It was designed to be dropped from the bomb bay of the B-36.

Yep, it's a concept known as a "parasite fighter" where the bomber serves as a mother ship that launches small escort fighters. he Soviets pioneered the concept back in the 1930's...

Total guess: The sling shot

Going off the hook on the nose of the plane, I think the jet used a sling type mechanism to launch, rather than the traditional take-off.

Maybe it was small to reduce weight; or because the design just called for putting a cockpit and wings on the jet turbine. Why bother with all that frilly "stabilization" stuff.

Clearly I don't waste time with any research what-so-ever.

1. What type of weapon is this?
2. What's it's name and country of origin?

That and to verify the spelling of things is not a problem in my opinion. So long as you know what it is and are not just doing a reverse image search.

Yes, sort of. It was actually a collaboration between Germany and Switzerland. It's name was Solothurn S-18/100.
