That's actually the first B-17 to complete 25 missions over Europe. Accomplished the feat 6 days before the Memphis Belle.

I was stumped and wanted to revive it so I looked him up. He may be the most bad-arse ever.

At least to campers on Call of Duty games.

That's a "Baghdad Battery". If I remember correctly, it's not been proven, but some thing it was literally an ancient electrical battery.

yep. One of the coolest finds ever.

If it actually worked, then Bagdad had some form of electricity well over a thousand years ago.

This is another thing I like, invented over 2,000 years ago, similar design still used today.

same guy invented this

Had Archamedes put a few of his inventions together, he would have had steam power 2,000 years ago.

Memphis Belle's crew was the first to complete 25 missions without losing a crew member.

I've always wondered what all knowledge from the ancient world we've still not rediscovered. The Antikythera Mechanism is a prime example.

That's the celestial computation device they found?

I remember seeing a show on it, it was super advanced and had Swiss like chronograph tech in it.

Never thought I'd make a post on TD that went so long. Feel like Foley in Boondock Saints II. Proudest day of my life.

That's it. Check this out...

quote:

A schematic representation of the gearing of the Antikythera Mechanism, including the latest published interpretation of existing gearing, gearing added to complete known functions and proposed gearing to accomplish additional functions, namely true sun pointer and pointers for the five then-known planets, as proposed by Freeth and Jones, 2012. Proposed gearing crosshatched.

That's 1st Century BC technology.
