Yeah my dad and myself was watching this thingy on nasa and I was pointing out all the former nazis. When my mom walked in and asked what was i doing ahe was kinda shocked how we built our space program.
well there were existing relationships and the need as the commies were a particular threat

but yes, a deep and thorough examination of our history shows a few moral shortcuts

Inalchuk of Otrar killing the peaceful envoys of Genghis Khan, prompting him to abandon his war with China to conquer the entirety of western Eurasia.

Custer
yall keep mentioning custer

his financial and personal prospects at the time were dim the other two forces that were supposed to meet with him had failed to do their job

the direct charge was the accepted military wisdom at the time and there had never been an Indian force that large

he wasn't the fool , nor the hero but rather a victim of the times

the Darwin angle is extraordinary

Honorable mention: Hitler breaking the non-aggression pact with Russia.

Imagine if Hitler would have just stuck to the plan to split Poland with Soviets and left England alone. There’s a good chance the Nazis would still control most of continental Western Europe.

eventually Hitler trying to get the oil in the ME

the US and GB would've gone to war vs the Axis and Italy would've been a real mess at that point

runner up....Carthage really found out not to play with those romans.

However, the p4p #1 FAFO was the Abbasid Caliphate playin' with Hulugu Khan and those mongol baws.

The Mongols absolutely savaged Babylon, the worst massacre in history....made hiroshima/nagasaki look like child's play

Poland was just a stepping stone to attacking the USSR. It was a key element of Nazi ideology going back to Mein Kampf. Germany had nearly starved in WWI due to the Royal Navy blockade. Germany s future food and fuel security lay in the east. In addition, Hitler had his own version of Manifest Destiny, most likely influenced by his boyhood reading of dime novels about the American west. He believed a multigenerational struggle against the slavs would keep Germany vital.

TL;DR, the invasion of Russia was a feature, not a bug. It wasn't a stupid mistake on Hitler's part, it had to happen for Nazi ideology to be internally consistent.
