Didn't graduate college and it wasn't salary, but I made ~$90k in 10 months starting out at my first "big boy" job. That also included a company truck, housing, and meals paid for. I made supervisor in under three months when the company I was working for grew from 6 employees to 60 (oilfield services).

not a ton of $, especially factoring in student loans, office lease, dental equipment, staff, insurance, etc, if that figure's correct, I'd say he'd be in the hole
Not all dentist have their own practice.

55k - Traveling construction field engineer (supts bitch)
90hrs/week.
It sucked.
I quit two years later and got a job for slightly more being an assitant supt here in BR.
I guess it was worth it.

even if he is hired by a practice, he will have expenses due to the practice, don't know what he can top out at, but that doesn't sound like a good ROI for all of that schooling, particularly if it was financed by student loans, he'll be working a good portion of that short work week for that, and Uncle Sam, of course

My brother is in dental school, and he told me that most dentists start out at around 150k. Also, many dentists work 4 days a week.
150k for 80% of the normal work week. Let that sink in.
Whatever, dude...
I know there are a lot of 'starving' dentists. I have a friend who finished LSU dental school, moved out west, and it has taken 10 years to build up a book of business (it takes 2 - 3k regular patients to support a practice and decent lifestyle).
$150k free and clear straight out of school is a wet dream, unless you have a sugar-daddy (established practice (your family's) ready to take you in.

That sounds great, so why are dentists killing themselves?

I know this varies by career & some professions (lawyer, doctor) require additional schooling, but anyone out there make serious bank (i.e. over 100K) right out of college with your first job? If so, what are you doing?
No.
I want it all, and I want it now generation.
Good luck!

Can't wait to make $45k straight out of law school

In 1981, I started offshore for a fluid filtering company. I made about $45k and didn't think I'd ever see a poor day.
