High River, Spring Thaws

Seems like the Mississippi River is pretty high, and the snow is piling up, up North. Is this usual, like when the snow melts, can all the spillways handle it?
I don’t remember the River usually being this high this time of year but then again that ain’t saying much.

It’s going back down next week. River will rise in May when the snow melts.

Abnormally high for this time of year. Yet it's not overly high for the usual high river period. Should Crest any day now; if it hasn't already.
However it is a very dangerous river right now. Boat capsized yesterday and two people lost their lives.

Forebay in Morgana is filled.
This high water at this time of the year happens about every 5-7 years. No big deal.

Yeah, it is high as hell at vicksburg...but not dangerously high yet.

Some have good input, others not so much.
Last year someone reported that an old black man at Ft Adams predicted the river was going to get high as it ever had. Several posters concurred that they would trust his opinion more than the forecasts.
Much like tropical storms, a lot of people want to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

It did about the same thing in January 2016 and everybody freaked out thinking a big one was coming later. It lingered, but never got dangerous. Hopefully about the same happens this year.
eta: There’s a pretty big fall coming after it crests in a couple days, so maybe we can get down far enough to handle the northern thaw.
