I used the word cured in response to another person. I don’t use that word, just simply say I have recovered.

Apologize for not clarifying

No problem. it’s just there are some people out there that actually think you can cure it by not drinking as much.

I can’t just have 3-4 beers, I drink until I am completely blackout, and I’ve built up quite the tolerance, it usually takes me 22-35 beers to get good and gone, some have classified as me an alcoholic, some have said I have a drinking problem, what I’m getting at is where’s the line is draw. I didn’t mean to insult you.

Time to go to rehab. I think I have a problem having 5-7 on the average night, but you’re just on another level. And the calories... if 35 is run of the mill for you, get treatment immediately and possibly check into a hospital for detox.

I don’t drink that a night though, I’d say I drink 3-4 nights a month. I run 5-6 miles a day, Im not worried about the calories, I’m worried about how much I drink, when I do drink.

This is starting to make sense. If you can afford it, go on a 3 month sober retreat in the wilderness and never drink again (or do any other drugs). You got some serious problems that need to be dealt with, and you’ve turned to alcohol to do so. I’m sorry for your loss and how your father ruined your entire family’s lives.

Is alcoholism purely to blame on genetics?

Not purely, but they are more often than not interlinked. But once you’re an alcoholic, it’s infused in you.

Are you aware that the DT’s can kill you, it’s irresponsible to suggest he do this, check into a mental hospital/behavioral center, they have wards for alcoholics, they give you Valium to avoid delirium tremens.

I feel relatively confident I haven’t drank 35 beers or the alcohol equivalent of that in 24 hours ever (with a possible exception of New Years Eve going into 2012). If you can take that level of drinks once a week, you’ve got a major issue. Some alcoholics can go a week without drinking, but then make up for it by getting completely out of control on Day 8 when they’ve “proven to themselves that they don’t need to drink.” If I go through more than a 12 pack even on a weekend I get concerned. You are just on another level.

Well I take them to a hospital that knows better and not a family practitioner.

Are you a counselor? Not asking in a sarcastic way.

I find it a shame that almost all recovery methods are religious based

It's not. Even 12 step isn't necessarily religious based. The higher power can be a lt of things

I know I’ll get a lot of downvotes on this board, but I was raised catholic, went to a catholic HS, I’m not by any means an atheist, but I’m not going to try to recover with anything that’s remotely religiously based.

You seem to have a lot of rules and conditions that need to be met for you to try and be sober.

Alcoholics only think they are hiding it because they are mostly too drunk to think otherwise.
