Had this surgery yesterday and will be on full liquid diet 3 days then soft foods for 2 weeks. Pretty uncomfortable as of right now. Any one had the procedure before and got any recovery advice? TIA

Had this surgery about 25 years ago, so I am sure there have been a lot of advances since then. With that said, it was uncomfortable for probably the first couple of weeks. It was several months before I could eat without it getting lodged in the esophagus and having to come back up. Speaking of coming back up, it was years before I could puke. That doesn't sound bad, but if you catch a stomach bug, it is miserable.
Like I said, it has been a long time, so I am sure there have been advances. Hell when I had mine, very few people were even getting it done laparoscopically. All in all, it wasn't the worst surgery I've had, but it was not particularly enjoyable.

Spaghettios are your friend, seriously. I ate those little SOBs in small tiny spoon fulls. Do NOT get them too hot early in recovery. That crap hurt, lol. Popsicles are awesome.

Had this procedure this past spring. I followed the post op diet pretty closely and did not have any issues. I did lots of packet instant mashed potatoes for the first week or so of solids. I didn’t have any of the issues with food getting lodged thst some people report but my biggest issue was an increased feeling of fullness and slight pain if I tried to eat a full meal for the first few months. I had to eat 5-7 smaller meals a day.

What were your symptoms prior to being seen for this condition?

Had fundoplication 8 years ago. Found out early to stay away from greasy food and red sauce. Too much spice isn’t very comfortable either. Drinking water and milk only helped early. Made the mistake of crushing a Dr. Pepper I was craving. Stay away from carbonated drinks. Most pain was gone in 48ish hours. Felt soreness in my torso for a week or so.
The surgery helped me A LOT. Glad I did it.

Severe heartburn without taking 40mg nexium everyday for 16 years. Really bad bloating/belching from air getting in my stomach, and food constantly coming back up.

Were you given the options of a partial fundoplication or the LINX ring?

Hah, Just a guess but you’ll likely still need to take some type of daily medicine. I do.
I had my surgery maybe 10 years ago. Still cannot belch. Getting the flu sucks because you cannot barf it up
On the good side, NO more throwing up EVERYNIGHT. That sucked. I also gained weight because I kept food down.
