Restaurants that are closing, are closing. You're not going to go there and get something to go.
An even if we could, we don't need to go order food to keep their businesses afloat. They won't go out of business over this. And it's their own decision to close up.And it's their own decision to close up. They can deal with the consequences.

The OP made perfect sense.

Same up here in VA. Stores are open and some restaurants but that's it. All movie theaters are closed. Shopping malls are open but with reduced hours. All schools are closed and almost all businesses are mandating people work from home if they can.

You must live the liberal hellhole of Northern Virginia?

Totally agree! It is a virus, not a plague and it will die out in a couple of months, but the media doing what it does best is ruining the stock market.

What are you not getting? You quoted two parts of my comment as if I contradicted myself. I said you're not going to be able to order food to go from a closed restaurant. So how does the OP expect us to patronize them? And, furthermore, we don't owe it to these restaurants to give them our money, even if we could order to go from them, when they are the one's choosing to close. If they want to panic, they can deal with their own problems.

Don't worry there OP, you'll find out in a few weeks how over blown this all has been... and ruined the whole financial system for absolutely no reason.
- pink slips will be coming very soon and in mass
- small businesses will be going under in mass
- large businesses who made money on the way up, will be getting paid by Uncle Sam on the way down... rich get richer
- Trump is going to make sure all his rich friends are make money on the whole affair... already in the pipeline
- stock market may have to close which could easily lead to a bank holiday, and its no holiday
- in the end you lose over all this over reacting

Yep. It's all a game to these people, to get what they want. And no matter how much we attempt to patronize our local businesses, as the OP wants, it won't affect the stock market. They won't stop panicking until all businesses are back up and running.
And as for our local economies, we can't help businesses who choose to close, and I don't see people not going out because of this. Most of the panic from the pubic seems to stem from a fear that supplies will run out somehow, so everyone is trying to beat everyone else to the stores. Which is pretty irrational, but that's where we're at.

It makes perfect sense, if you agree that we can somehow patronize businesses that are closed. And it makes no sense to say everyone should go out and buy stuff, when they already are doing so, in excess. As it pertains to restaurants, those that are open aren't going to lose much, if any business.
He then clarified to me that he apparently meant that we should buy at more of the normal pace. Which I agree with, but this hoarding is not hurting our local economy. It just means more is being bought up front. What it does is over burden the supply chain.
What hurts the economy is businesses choosing to close over their fears of the virus, or trying to be politically correct in following what everyone else is doing. Nobody is going to lose their job because of hoarding.
So the OP still makes no sense. He should be imploring businesses to open back up, not telling people to go out. People ARE going out. They're just hoarding because of a fear of supplies being cut off, or eventually being told to stay home. Which is dumb, I know. But it is what it is.

They created a panic over nothing, its been known for about 3 weeks who this impacts (very sick elderly). There was never any need for all this panic in the United States, now in Asia it was different... they didn't know a month ago.

Buy gift cards to restaurants if you are weary of ordering out

Gov Edwards stated that restaurants and bars are closed to in store business. They are allowed to provide to go orders. They aren't "choosing" to close. Small businesses and employees of those businesses will bear a huge economic impact. That's what the OP is stating. If they are still offering "to go" sales it is beneficial to them and the local economy to patron them. It's as simple as that.

Dude... What are you saying? None of that makes any sense, and has nothing to do with my reply.
You're imploring everyone to go buy stuff to keep the economy flowing, and what I'm telling you is that people ARE doing that, to the point of excess.
Meanwhile, if we were actually on "lock down", you wouldn't be able to eat at a restaurant.
You're telling me that I can't go eat or have a drink tomorrow night, which I have no idea where you're getting that from, but then you're telling me to go get take out... Can I, or can't I get food and drink, according to you?
The best thing for people to do is freaking relax.
You don't get it. He's saying to order out from a restuarant so they can keep the lights on. There are tons of restaurants that you can order from, but if you can't order from them they are likely going to be completely shut down if they haven't yet. The casinos and boats have/are getting shut down, clubs have/are getting shut down, churches closed, schools closed (also colleges). Wal Mart is changing 24 hour stores to 15 hours and other grocery stores that open that long are sure to follow suit. That sounds a lot like a lockdown to me.

I've heard the same thing myself. My guess is they'll let people try to buy groceries up a few more days before just shutting it down, if that is the truth.
On the other hand, I think grocery chains will close some stores and prioritize their bigger stores in cities to make sure they stay stocked. Right now they are not even closely fully stocking every store.

Marine Semper Fi I strongly disagree, the only way to stop this mess is a complete lock down, you know how many a-holes do not wash their hands and go in public sick
I 2nd this. people really don’t realize how easy this virus can spread. I know they keep saying stay within 3 feet of people. But the person at the fast food place is touching your food yes they have gloves on. well most of them do on other hand most of them don’t. And if you go to the store and buy meat what about the guy that is cutting it or packaging it. Etc etc etc

The transmission rate appears to be higher than the flu, the world can't stop the flu. The vast majority of the country will eventually get this bug.
All of this mask and glove stuff is for show, the vast majority of people will get it in the next year or two, see data on Diamond Princess. The good news is most people will not be heavily impacted health wise. Matter of fact, if they follow South Korea i.e. treatment, the chances of being impacted even if very old and sick can be very minimal.

If I was worried about getting the virus, the last thing I would do is order take out.... that's fricking stupid. LOL

The Governor has ordered them closed.
