Get some bird spikes. They can't build a nest if they can't land.

Go to the pest control section in the home depot garden center and buy some bird wire.

Pops put bird wire up at his house, I was out of town for a week, when I came back they had already nested. They can stay until the eggs hatch. No one goes to my front door anyway, so its not that big of a deal. I do go sweep out there every afternoon though, messy little bastards.

They will be back next year - and the years after that - kinda like salmon who swim upstream every year.

Your problem was exactly like mine in a house I once owned. I didn't want to hurt the birds but they are very, very messy with their crap. They nested at the front door (as do yours) and not some place where the crap wouldn't have been so obvious or bothersome. I did not find anything that was 100% successful. I just resolved to wash my porch more often than I preferred, conceding defeat.

Fake eagle, hawk, owl - or maybe you can rent a real one for a day and feed it lunch.

This is truth...

Paint your porch ceiling baby blue. They will not nest there if they think it is not covered...

Now that I have let y'all in on the secret, you'll start noticing a lot of porch ceilings painted like that, and that's the reason why.

We're really going to pretend a small bird's nest is messing up the aesthetics of your "home"? Come on.

Can't believe it took to the 3rd page for someone to post this. Best kept "secret" for bird prevention.

I was going to say that when I posted, but I always seem to run my mouth here so I refrained. I'm glad somebody caught that.
