Tl Dr - buddy went on date. Things went well, lots in common, mutual physical attraction, etc.
In my world, if you ask a girl out and things go well, it is on her to make the next move. The move can be as simple as a "thanks I had a great time and want to see you again". But the next move should come from her.
He thinks he should be calling the next day to set up date #2.
Different strokes I know, just curious what the all knowing ot thinks.
And save the alpha beta shite....

There's no right answer. It depends on the person.

If I were into the girl, I personally wouldn't end the date without making plans before the end of the night.

Eh. Probably right. Just curious if there is standard protocol.

it really shouldnt be on anyone imo. why make rules for something so trivial?

In Alabama I understand that it is common courtesy for the putative father to decide which of his children date each other.

Again. Probably correct. Maybe I should have worded it like a what would you do.

eh...this could go either way.
I would just proceed more texting, work in some flirtation, then see how that went and then plan up the second date.

Nothing wrong with making plans before date is over.
Nothing wrong with calling the next day
Nothing wrong with waiting
Whatever gets you the next date is the right answer. And if it went as well as he thinks, any of these options probably works.

It completely depends on the people. I think calling the next day for date 2 seems a bit much, but maybe call to say hi.

If I'm interested, I call her the next or the second day after to say I had a good time and either set the second date or indicate interest in a second date.

Making 2nd date plans while still on the 1st date is a tad forward, I think. I'd say wait til the next day then text saying he had a great time, yadda yadda, ask if she wants to get together again.

Sounds like I'm in the minority. Interesting. .

No standard protocol. There's no amount of time you have to wait to call either... It all depends on when you feel like it and when you're in the right frame of mind ('in the zone'). Chicks can always tell, and it'll make it easier on yourself as well. I'm an introvert and don't like talking on phones, so that's especially important for someone like me.
She should definitely at least seem interested in seeing you again, though. If it's true about the mutual attraction, then it's a green light.

I'd weigh in, but my version is the old people's version, where time is a valuable commodity and you cut to the chase. So I'll let you young folks figure out your own rules.

Agree, I was just jumping in the thread in general not necessarily responding to you in particular.

You should ask this girl out yourself as a test to see if she's interested in your friend

Man up
If you want another date....ask for one.
An actual phone call instead of a text to ask this goes a long way IMO.
