She had white subway and it looked terrible so she ripped it out. It looked like white paint.

Top.

I'm about to build so we went to Parade of Homes last weekend. Quartz outnumbered granite 2 to 1. I think I still prefer granite though.

100% Colonial White. That busy granite pattern is already outdated looking and you will get very tired of it.

I have a feeling within ten years quartz will go the way of corian.

There's tons of grout options that could change that and you can get different types of tile.

I'm considering creating something custom for a backsplash using layered and riveted brushed aluminum panels and weathering them to look like an old fighter plane or something like that. The wall behind the cabinetry will have an accent color, either a medium, lightly saturated blue or a medium/dark gray. Obviously it wouldn't be permanently installed since that will not be everyone's style when its time to move on to another place - but I think it would be a really cool and unique look, especially if I can craft it myself.

Wish we would have done something along these lines.

I'm doing copper.

I know lots of people do it, but I love the way it looks behind our oven and with our copper range hood. Rest of the kitchen has white subway tile.

FWIW I think EE does Luna for $10-$15 installed...closer to $10.

No they don't. It costs close to $10 a foot for the slab for the fabricator.

Quartz is under appreciated. I think a lot of people take it for granite.

They are lying. They will quote you that then charge you per linear foot to polish the edge, for the sink cut out , for the sink installation, for removing the existing tops, for sealing the granite etc.

At ten bucks a foot you could do a small galley kitchen with a ten foot sink piece and two two 24" pieces on either side of the stove for under $300. Do you honestly think you can have a kitchen done for under $300?
