Forgot about the lanyard of duck calls hanging from the rear view mirror, and he hasn't been duck hunting in years

Bro Country scoring system. One point for each reference:

*back road/dirt road
*truck
*river/lake
*moon/sun
*tailgate
*female attire
*ice chest
*alcohol
*reference to a non-country artist (2 pts)
*reference to a traditional country artist
*mud
*radio

*reference to Southeastern state
*reference to some type of tree

But seriously I love the way country music sounds. Hate on it all you want but it's popular for a reason.

I just went to Spotify and checked out the top country playlist and picked a random song I’ve never heard of by an artist I’ve never heard of.

Let’s see how it does:

Got a little southern drawl in my talk
Little pickup truck on my highway
Got a little boot stomp in my walk
Little neon light in my Friday
Got some Tennessee in my whiskey
Raise a cup up if you with me
I was raised on Merle, raised on Willie
Got my Honky Tonk attitude from Joe Diffie
Daddy did too, it's family tradition
If someone cranks it up, you can't help but listen
My upbringing sounds like George Strait singing
And I gotta give props to the radio
'Cause if you know me, I was raised on country
It's the only reason that I survived
Every breakup and every party
It's the soundtrack to my life
It runs deep in my DNA
I was raised on Merle, raised on Willie
Got my Honky Tonk attitude from Joe Diffie
Daddy did too, it's family tradition
If someone cranks it up, you can't help but listen
My upbringing sounds like George Strait singing
And I gotta give props to the radio
'Cause if you know me, I was raised on country
I was raised on country
Learned a lot about living and a little 'bout love
(Raised on country music)
And you know that's something I'm so proud of
I was raised on Merle, raised on Willie
Got my Honky Tonk attitude from Joe Diffie
Daddy did too, it's family tradition
If someone cranks it up, you can't help but listen
My upbringing sounds like George Strait singing
And I gotta give props to the Radio
'Cause if you know me, I was raised on country
Yeah, I was raised on country
(Raised on country music)
I was raised on country
(Raised on country music)

I think Luke Combs has some good stuff, not all of it, but a lot of it is pretty good and not all about a truck

Ya know how I know country music now is garbage?

I have never written a song in my life and I could log off and come back in 15 minutes with a song that’s lyrics are indistinguishable from a hit country song from today.

I couldn’t write Cashmere, Master of Puppets or Come As You Are in 30 lifetimes.

And Sturgill Simpson. He was doing old style country before Stapleton hit big.

I've seen both John Sebastian (Lovin Spoonful) and Bobby Hart ("Last Train to Clarksville") in interviews say that hit songs are generally written quickly.

Rednecker

My town's smaller than your town
And i got a bigger buck and bass on my wall
Got a little more kick in my drawl
Y'all i got little more spit in my chaw
My truck's louder than your truck
And my collar's a little more blue
You might think that you're redneck
But I'm rednecker than you
Yes I am

You’ve just gotta really look past the Nashville country. Stapleton and a few others are really good but most of it appeals to teenagers and trailer park trash.

I’m personally more of a Texas country guy with good instrumentation like fiddle, harmonica, steel guitar.
