Helicopter parents at soccer

Our son is in 3-4 year old soccer and about 90% of the kids have a parent hovering over them the entire time. When did this become the norm?
It's also clearly visible that the kids without a parent hovering over them are doing much better at playing and taking directions from the coach.

NB4. Soccer is ghey.
It can't be gay because the toddlers haven't chosen their gender yet.

I go straight the the bar and let my kid walk from there. Gotta warm up.

I coach (and I use that term loosely) the same age. Not only do no parents hover, when one of the kids ran off the field crying for his mom, she sent him back on the field.
Maybe you just coach in a pussy arse league.

Which is awesome....the kid gets to get out and run around and have a good time. It is the parents who ruin it.

I think (or at least hope) that there is a special place in heaven for folks who coach teams like this. They try to help the kids and the parents do their level best to frick it all up for everyone.

Drove me crazy when my kids were playing. I think some parents expectations are way too high and when a little kid loses focus like 3-4 year olds do they get anxious and jump in. If they would just wait the coach will bring them back in.

Explains a lot.
I could write a book on all of the drama I've witnessed by observing soccer parents in multiple Northshore youth soccer leagues.

bullshite. My 19 month old daughter says she is a girl. And does it with conviction.

Your kid plays soccer at 3-4 years old? I had already made deck hand on a shrimp boat by then

It's been the norm for a while. Parents are the worst thing to happen to sports. I don't know if they're trying to live vicariously through their kids or something, but they get way too serious about it. I've seen parents berate coaches, officials, players, even their own kids over a meaningless little league game. It even happens in leagues that don't even keep score!

I don't have kids but got wrangled into coaching 5-7 year olds with another guy while in the Marines. The key is coaches have got to let the dumbass parents know at the beginning of the season thier expectation of them to not act like idiots. This is not club soccer. The point of the whole thing is to develop basic soccer skills while making the kids as tired as possible and still convincing them it is fun. Then they are to worn out to cause any ruckus once back home.
We dominated the league and the parents gave me a high dollar Chili's gift certificate at the end of the season. I'd say I'm an expert on the topic.
