My daughter was there and was pushed down to the ground by an older lady.

I'm sure all of the Strawberry cakes deserve First Place. The competition really has gotten too fierce.

A friend of mine posted a video of one of the victims being loaded on a stretcher to get him to an ambulance. He was supposedly shot in the abdomen. He was alert and looked okay. The other person was just grazed. I don't have to give a description of the victim, you already know. It used to be an all night party when it first started. The crowd now is just out of towners. But it is good for the local businesses and high school clubs. It might get to dangerous for the kids working the booths. So sad.

It is very sad. When our kids were small, Friday night was for the neighborhood kids and the buses of kids they brought from Hammond State School. The neighborhood kids were all given bracelets to ride the rides all weekend. I miss when it was mostly just local people from the surrounding towns for the entire weekend.

lady.

Sorry but that was no lady. Lady has a special meaning. Using the word incorrectly destroys the real meaning.

Many people moved to Ponchatoula just so their children would have access to good public schools. Bussing has almost destroyed what was once one of the best schools in the state. When will this forced system end?

It's not just LA. It's every city in every state. They are just different and until everyone understands that nothing will change.

Grew up in Ponchy in the 80s/90s. Quit attending the festival 20 years ago because it all changed quickly. I can't even imagine how bad it is now.

They're just going to have to shut down all the great, traditional, South LA festivals.

A lawsuit waiting to happen for letting a certain demographic through the gates.

Sucks

I lived in Ponchatoula from '81 to '88 and up until this year we have gone to the festival every year since then.
We mostly watch the parade, then walk around and look at the vendors merchandise, catch a few bands on the grounds along with some local food/drink.
It's just not worth fighting that crowd any more. It's not fun now to always be on alert and wondering if the person next to you is going to do something.

It is a world away from what it used to be.

I don't know what can be done to change it, but something has to change with that festival.

Either that or move it to a controlled festival area and charge $50 entry.

You really don't need to charge that much. $10 and you'd notice a significant difference in the clientele. First festival that I paid an entry fee was the wooden boat festival. It was only $5 back then but what a difference it made.
