not really, I'd ballpark that "your choice" plays roughly 5% of your overall outcome.(or less)

I'd say its at least 90% genetic predisposition, 5% upbringing, 5% choice.

Genetic predisposition doesn't necessarily dictate how you'll react to choices when presented with options. There's far too much complexity and adaptation over a lifetime. It certainly may increase the odds that you'll think in certain patterns but you're not born an architect, drug addict of electrician.

I would say 95% of who we are is determined onces outside of the womb. The 5% that is determined before being born is only if you are a male (dick) or female (puss).

chris doesn't feel the need to pay off on bets so, it doesn't matter what side he takes in a wager.

Say you're predisposed to math and science, you may choose to be an accountant, an engineer, an architect....but your being an upper/middle class professional was pretty much predicated on the natural mental ability that you were born with. Even if you chose the electrician/plumber route, you would be on the same mental level as an accountant and likey run your own shop.

remember 5% is 1 in 20, so someone from a poor, uneducated background 'can' make it, but likely won't because they don't usually inherit the right stuff from their parents.

When I make that statement, Im not saying that there's no difference between trees, Im just telling you what the forest looks like.

Here's more about the subject

quote:

Despite the environmental effects on IQ, heritability still plays a bigger role in determining overall IQ.
Environmental factors can mean the loss or gain of a few points here or there, but it pales in comparison to what you're born with.

quote:

Significantly more, in fact: people in the 75 to 90 range are 88 times likelier to drop out of high school, seven times more likely to go to prison, and five times more likely to live in poverty than those with an IQ over 110.

Well, it’s a REAL social science.

Now that’s another topic.

Well, this isn't 100% true though. . There are enough exceptions to the rule to say that's it's not a universal truth.

More likely people are partially guided by genetic predisposition into thinking patterns, what they do well, etc.., but more often than not their choices are decided by societal expectations and circumstance. IQ and genetic predispositions will certainly increase probability of some things, but your choices determine what you become. Choices are influenced by many things.

True and I don't think there will be many disagree. However genetic predispositions just give people some kind of probability. It's certainly nowhere near 90%.
