Glad to hear you got the job

I’m very respectful with company men, obviously, and have a lot of experience dealing with them.
I also get along well with other companies working on the same jobs and try my best to make friends and network.
I don’t consider myself “green” but when it comes to offshore, the basic fact is that I am. No matter how many years of experience I have, I’m still an SSE according to company/operator definitions on this one, and I will act accordingly. I definitely won’t be running my mouth or trying to pretend I know how to something better, because when it comes to offshore I don’t know shite, and I can admit that.

Thank you sir, I made a lot of sacrifices to move into the offshore arena and I intend to make the most of it. It’s definitely not what I consider oilfield work in the sense of the way things work onshore, but I’ve always dreamed of working offshore and I couldn’t pass up the opportunity.

You're good to go.

Nobody cares what you know. The want to know what you're willing to learn.

I wouldn’t want it any other way, I don’t want anything handed to me and want to earn my place. I’m there to learn and help out as much as I can, and that’s all I can ask for.

When I find out what they don't know, they get trained on it. "willing" to learn doesn't compute.

You will do fine, I would rather have a hand that’s never been offshore but around the industry for several years and a decent guy, than I would the guy who’s got two years on a DW platform and thinks he’s some tuff shite cus he’s “ deepwater”.
He’s been in the industry less than some of my underwear is what an OIM used to say lol.
Good luck it’s a great career and the GOM is small and somewhat like a family

Sounds like alot of white privilege goes on offshore. Somebody shoot me and email so I can start looking.

I disagree. Maybe at the upper levels and the guys that sit behinds desk, but in my experience anyone who works hard can earn his place. The job I’m going on consists of myself and 2 other white guys, and the other 3 are Hispanic, one of whom is the lead.
I would say nepotism far outweighs racism.

I was joking.
My dad worked offshore in 80's I know it was hard work and as you mentioned earlier you do what's best for you and your family
And goodluck

I'm talking about not coming in to try and tell people what they know. You know the type.
Would you rather train someone who soaks up everything you say like it's gold, or one that tries to tell you they know already before you finish what you're saying in an effort to impress?

You know I am. Not only did my dad do it during the 1980's but my younger brother now lives in Louisiana and has been going in and out for the last 5 years. Unfortunately he has been layed off about 3 or 4 times in this time period and just recently landed a good job.

Correction, looks like it’s a drill ship, the Noble Don Taylor.
Posted on 4/9/19 at 5:44 am to Corkfather
That makes more sense, it's a new build and nice, I miss the drillships.
