Head and neck injuries in football. What happened to neck braces/rolls?

I wore one of these in HS football and never once got a neck or head injury. You could "bowe" your shoulders on contact and all of the force of the contact was on your shoulders. You could literally run into a brick wall with this on and not be injured. Why are they not used anymore?

I think I read somewhere that these actually increase the chance of injury, so I wouldn't do this...
ETA: After trying to find the article I've come across plenty of other articles saying they are still recommended for safety, so ignore my original post.

Cowboy collars are the only way to roll, even if you're a kicker.

Reuben Foster wore one on kickoff coverage last year for Bama.

Thanks for the link Coat, wish I'd known this in high school as my QB called us the most lethal dual wearing QB/WR duo in high school that year..as neither one of us had squat for lateral movement..missed you on the golf trip to Kiawah this year and Hotty Toddy!

I also miss the 80s and 90s shoulder pads. Not sure how RB and WR played in these haha.
Hip pads were legit too.

The Saints paint them on their uniforms.

Your thinking of the neck roll.

McDavid Cowboy collar + Spider pads under the shoulder pads = Invincible

I have doubts about any study just from my experiences. I had the one that was higher in the back than the front, came to a point at the neck. I couldn't really tilt my head backwards, but could look down with no problem.
I was taught to tackle with my facemask into the body, so it completely took all of the force on my shoulders.
Don't know why it isn't used anymore and that technique taught anymore.
