It is pretty common with a kidney stone. Any time they stick a tube up your schlong, it is not going to be any damn fun, and I found it to be much better than continuing to suffer with the kidney stone. In comparison to the surgery option, I would take it any day. You are going to have a string hanging out of your schlong for a while....

Are you having anesthesia?

Yes. They got to go break up and get a 7mm stone that has been in my ureter since the end of January.

damn ... assuming there hasn't been too much pain since it's been there since january, though i imagine there's been a fair amount of discomfort ... stones ain't no joke if they're trying to move through ... they hurt like a mofo ...

The pain and discomfort came back about a month or month and half ago.

Yes. Had this and also cystoscopy more than once. Not lots of fun but can be avenue for blessed relief from assorted blockages. The gain is worth the pain. I guess...

We do quite a few of them here, but we put all of our patients to sleep prior to. If they're using a laser to break up your stone, request to go to sleep.

Yes... burnt like fire for 24-36 hours. Lots of trickling out, or at least the sensation of. No stent, and stone was slightly larger and hung up in my bladder. Lots of blood, but surprisingly almost no pain before getting it blasted apart. The temporary discomfort far outweighs the long term of "toughing it" out.

The Dr. already said that he is putting one in. Heard those things hurt and very uncomfortable.

I had a stent put in and I imagined it to be a metal pipe or something. But it is just a slim, rubbery, straw with holes in it. Doesn't feel great but it isn't as bad as I imagined.

( But I am a chick, soooooo)

Naw, the secret is to drink diet coke but swallow a few unchewed menthos when you do. The fizzy bubbles prevent stones from forming.

Voila!

My story is I had some lower right back pain one saturday morning. Not bad like most people with kidney stones have spoken about, but enough to bother me. Someone told me that when that happens a hot bath can help. After sitting in a hot bath for about an hour the pain went away. I did start to notice a strange feeling when peeing and a slight feeling like when you get hit in the nuts. After a couple days of this I started having to feel like I had to pee all the time. I went to the doctor and he thought it was a UTI so he have me a weeks worth of antibiotics. They didn't help at all. I went back and he gave me some tablets that make you piss a dark orange color. He said its supposed to sooth irritated areas in the urinary tract. That didn't help. Then one weekend I just started feeling worse, no pain, but the urge to pee was stronger and felt like I had to poop too. Called the doc back and he said it could be a kidney stone. A friend suggested a urologist and the next morning I got a CT scan and went to see him. One look at the scan showed I had 2 kidney stones. One still at the bottom of the kidney (which I still have today, 4 years later) and another stuck between the kidney and the bladder I think (the ureter?). From start to this visit was 3 weeks. Doc asked how long I have been feeling this and I told him. Then he said I could keep trying to pass it but it was most likely stuck since its been so long. He recommended the ureteroscopy and 3 hours later the stone was removed. I was going out of town in a few days so he didn't put stents in, but stents are normal procedure from what I understand. Since I didn't I had the bladder spasms, which were painful. I think the rest of the story is in the previous post. I think my stone was 5mm and was calcium oxylate. I think it was caused from a very high protein diet I was on for a few months. Haven't had any more since then. Unfortunately the 2nd stone will eventually pass. Recent CT showed it as a 2cm stone and its about halfway up the kidney now. If I had to have another ureteroscopy done it would not bother me since I know what to expect. Its all under general anesthesia so no worries. Drink plenty of water for the next weeks, lemon water should be part of your routine if its a calcium/calcium oxylate stone. You will be pissing little blood clots for a couple weeks. Also, the first day or two after it will feel like you are pissing razor blades so be prepared for that. Let me know if you have any other questions.

ureteroscopy went well this morning. Had to be there at 0630 and I was leaving by 1045. This stent hurts like hell and there is a good chance I will be calling them back tomorrow to see if they can remove it.
