Some years ago, I had a Chevy Lumina as a work car. It was an incredibly reliable car, made it to 419,000 miles on the original drive train.

My firm had summer help, one of whom was a black male (he is now a police officer). I had a hearing in Dallas and was driving down I-20. In Texas, we were stopped around Marshall for going "4 over". The stop was about three minutes long as the trooper quickly figured out we weren't drug mules.

In Terrell, we got stopped again, this time for improper lane change. Again, the stop was quick and ended with a warning.

Nothing like a white driver, black passenger, older out of state car to get police attention.

Yeah, drove a white Acura with black rims and dark tint a long time ago. My wife and I(then gf) were driving through bum frick Arkansas and got pulled over, was literally doing the speed limit on wet roads. Dude was shocked to see two white people I think

Absolutely did, the young man's dad was very prominent in law enforcement circles.

The Lumina was stop bait in East Texas. I was stopped several other times going to the family farm. Each time the trooper sized me up and gave me a warning.

Yes. One time I hung one of those little tree air fresheners from my rearview mirror (Black Ice scent, of course) and got pulled over as soon as I pulled out of my neighborhood onto the main road...

I drove through a sketchy neighborhood late one night when I was 17. Unmarked car pulls me over on a busy street. 2 cops rush my car with guns drawn. Asked me a couple questions, saw I was a dorky young white dude clearly not buying crack, and let me go.

So you broke the law twice, got caught, and insist you got profiled?

I’ve been pulled over for being white in the wrong neighborhood. They said I crossed the center line (in a residential neighborhood with cars parked on both sides of the street).

It made me feel like the cops were doing their job - responding to something outside the norm.

Based on his story, sounds more like he’s profiling himself.

They don't stop people for 4 over under ordinary circumstances. I also had signaled my lane change. But, I didn't argue.

They also give out quick warnings when they are out trying to catch drug traffickers on the interstate. They want to get right back at it. I've represented a number of law enforcement agencies over the years so I'm not exactly unfamiliar with these kind of stops.

A buddy got pulled over for having his 4 wheeler in the back of his truck when we were 17. Said he suspected it was stolen. It wasn’t obviously but he held us there 20 minutes until curfew hit. Then he wrote us tickets for being out past curfew even tho we were headed to my house that was a mile away. FTP. Couldn’t just have us on our way after verifying we weren’t criminals

Why yes, just this morning. I was doing the speed limit with myself and two children buckled securely into our seats when I noticed a cruiser with an officer sticking a radar speed gun out of his window.

He profiled me as a law-abiding citizen and I drove past him without incident.

yes.

driving back from a college tour, i fell asleep at the wheel and flipped my S10. i was fine, but had to get a new car. i found a very fair priced Chevy Cheyenne that had been lowered with expensive rims and exhaust. really cheap but a nice ride. i looked fairly ghetto.

rims weren't quite that big, but the general idea.

went to a university in West Texas but lived at home the first semester. i got pulled over after i got outside of city limits late at night more than once and DPS was always surprised to find a sober white farm kid.

one a-hole was convinced i had drugs or was drunk. i did everything he asked for a sobriety test and let him search my truck. i finally said "just let me blow the breathalyzer to get this over with."

in hindsight it was a huge civil rights violation, but i was 18 and dumb.

got a lot of hell for that truck but it was fun to ride.

In college I remember a detective knocking on my door… want to say it was around all the serial killer madness. They were screening people from their registered vehicles. I must not have fit the profile, still a free man

When I was a member of a MC, we’d get profiled quite often. For example if there was a Coalition of Clubs meeting or a big rally, it was quite common for there to be a vehicle safety checkpoint right outside the entrance. Anyone in a vehicle would be waved though, they’d only stop motorcycles. The roadblocks would be local cops, state troopers, and Other guys in plain clothes that I assume were FBI. There would also be guys in plain black BDU style uniforms in full combat load out armed with M16s. Everyone would be ordered to shut off and remain on their bike while DLs were collected from everyone and taken to an unmarked van. While this was going on, guys with cameras would take pictures of each of us from the front and back, making sure they could clearly see our patch. After they were done, our licenses were retuned and we were allowed to go on into the meeting.

Just to be clear, the stops didn't bother me at all. I thought it was funny.

I worked with a lawyer who represented a number of NW Louisiana sheriff's offices. We were going to Monroe for a federal court hearing. There was a sign on the interstate that said "Caution ... Drug Checkpoint Ahead." It was by a rarely used exit. Of course, there was no checkpoint on the interstate. They would catch people exiting and question them about where they were going. Those who were dodging the checkpoint could not coherently explain why they exited. They also used to do this on I 49 at the Asseff Road exit.

The lawyer I was with was driving an he exited because he wanted to ask if their ploy was working.

Not that I can remember, but do remember being pulled over because it was justified - speeding.

I was 18 driving through mobile, heading to florida, late at night, in a sports car. a-hole swore I had drugs and ripped my car apart. Didn’t have anything, gave a warning, and left my car in shambles.
