If there is an advanced alien civilization in our galaxy, what would be the point of "keeping an eye on" Earth?
Any number of reasons. As others have said maybe they seeded this planet and consider it an investment. They want to make sure those pesky humans dont completely ruin it before they may need to colonize in the future. Or at some point maybe we get invited to join the "The Federation" or just curiosity.
Like I posted they may exist outside our reality and are bouncing in and out of our time/space for reason beyond our comprehension.
The craft could be advanced aircraft from our far future that uses propulsion that warps space/time and causes them to appear in our time for brief periods. When dealing with the possibility of civilizations that could be millions of years more advanced than us really who the hell knows what they are capable of and what are their motives.

Did not read that long crap.
But Yes, I routinely talk to a UFO once a month. It gives me gold coins and in return I give it food, water, and my WiFi password which I change once a month.

I think in the near future we’ll find out our so called leaders have known for decades what the deal is !

Carter, Reagan and Clinton all claimed they asked and were never told anything.
All of the others have brushed the question off over the years.

Actually .... you may be talking about the 11 different dimensions according to string theory which, according to some physicists, IS a possibility.
We're only able to exist inside of three dimensions of course.
In The Three Bodies we learn to fold down to two in an effort to survive the big crunch once we are invaded. Two basically being like a sheet of paper.
We've long explained ghosts and aberrations as existing in a 4th dimension.
If there truly are 7 more dimensions then who knows, you may be on to something.

Back in the early 80s my siblings and I were camping out on our property in the Felicianas. At some point in the middle of the night we were awakened by a strange noise. My youngest sibling was scared by the sound and asked me to see what it was. I crawled out the tent and immediately saw a strange craft in the sky coming over the tree line moving directly towards us. It was slow moving and triangular in shape with orange colored lights running along all sides of the triangle. It was low enough in the sky that I could see that the body of the craft was solid and dark metallic with what appeared to be a lot of piping running over the bottom of it. It was pretty large but not massive. I've described the sound it made as a mix between a tugboat and a larger propeller plane. I was frozen when the thing flew over me. Less by fear and more by awe. I returned to the tent and told my siblings that I didn't know what it was I saw but it was really weird, and my oldest sibling recommended we go home, which we did. I'm not saying I saw aliens, but I definitely saw something I'd never seen before nor ever saw again.

The first rule of space force, don’t talk about space force...

The Fermi Paradox
Is not actually a paradox. The combo of time and distance is more than enough to explain the phenomenon.

If wanting to see one would make it happen, I would have seen a hundred of them, but sadly I have never seen one. I have seen some strange stuff and always decided later on there was a reasonable explanation.
I do believe if they have been here, the government knows and a large portion of the population would not be able to accept the truth that we are not alone, so if they are real, you will never see the government say so at any point in the near future.
If they are real, I see no reason why they would not make their presence known, since they have no reason (that I can imagine) to fear any force on earth.
Maybe they have a prime directive - like the folks on the Starship Enterprise. That sounds so Hollywoodish, doesn't it.
Having said all of this, I believe there are plenty of others out there. I also hope they have figured out a way to work around physics. I also hope they have no need to grow us like cattle and can find some interest in sharing what they would have to know to do what they would need to do to just get here.
It would also be nice if they would take me for a ride (along). I wouldn't do anything wrong.

The Fermi Paradox is what draws me back a little, but still...I can't imagine that we have anything that can move like what we saw. It would rip a human body apart.
There's a great scene in S3 E1 or two I believe that illustrates this when the guy driving the ship suddenly accelerates when he breaches the giant bubble thingy.
I give that series a lot of credit for trying to always get the science right.

To think it is just us in infinity is ludicrous. Cannot say I have seen a UFO, but I have heard things and seen flashes of light that I cannot explain.

I was watching a documentary on Amazon Prime with this Aviation Historian. I can't remember his name. According to him, those are ours and the description of the piping on the bottom is exactly what he described and drew up.

I'd like to see one, but alas, I have not. I do have family that I trust emphatically, including a retired Air Force Brigadier, that say they have.

I have.
It wasn't crazy erratic or 10x the speed of sound weirdness, but it was not a regular flying object. I haven't the time to explain how it looked because work starts but I like to chime in on these from time to time because those that have seen one have a united feeling of same ole same ole reactions from people that hear them. It's always a "woah, no way man" kinda response, but it clearly never sinks in when you are telling it because people have to go about their day, right?
I don't believe in ghosts (at all) or any silliness. I am agnostic at best. A skeptic at heart. All of that.. and everyone that knows me irl knows that.
You would think that coming from a guy like myself that at least my friends and family would really stop to think about the ramifications of my own testimony. Perhaps they do believe me. Perhaps everyone I've told does, and we all just are totally ok with UFOs existing without any qualifications, explanations or justifications.

Yes. Over Fort Polk, Louisiana.
Several of us watched an unknown aircraft do all sorts of crazy maneuvers that seemed impossible. Sudden changes of direction, hanging in the sky, slowly climb then make a sudden (at least from our perspective) J-shaped maneuver, then repeat several times.
We watched for what seemed like a few minutes, then several of us realized we'd lost track of almost an hour of time.
These were all military people with extensive experience being in and around military aircraft. No one thought it was routine or normal, although I can't say for certain it was not a terrestrial aircraft because of the distance. I can say that it was not normal behavior, there was no sound associated with it and combined with the altitude and nature of the maneuvers, it was either some sort of advanced experimental aircraft (and, if so, WTF was it doing at Fort Polk?) or it was a true, full on UFO.
