Ignoring your silly, insecure political projections, there's nothing inherently wrong with a fedora, or a bowtie, or suspenders, or, or, or... but because they are no longer the norm, they are primarily worn by try-hards, and because try-hards are inherently uncool, those items are therefore inherently uncool.
Somewhat ironically, your photo also has a guy wearing a baseball cap, which most of the rest of the world equates with douchey American man-children.
On the other hand, most of these guys look pretty normal in their hats:
