Awhile back a guy I know paid this guy to help him build a fence. A few weeks later the guy went back to the guy's house and told him something like "I was just checking to see if you have the money to pay me for helping you with your fence?". Long story short he ended up paying the guy because he started to question himself although he said he was 99% sure he did..

The only time I got screwed because I paid in cash was at popeyes. I was at the drive thru. My order was less than $10 and I paid with a $20. She gave me my change and food at the same time so I put the change in the bag. When I got home I realized I only had $6 in change. I had no hard evidence that would have made it worth my time to go talk to the manager or anything, but I was pissed just because when I thought about it, I didn't get my change back right after paying... I had to wait a little longer, when my good came out.. Anyway, have you ever paid for something in cash and it came back to bite you?

Yes, paid a contractor friend of mine in advance and he quit showing up until I threatened to call the DA.

When I was getting my change and food at the same time, I just grabbed it all and left. Someone was with me so I was talking at the same time as well... I was just distracted.

Color me shocked.

That is basically rule number one of what not to do when employing a contractor.

Notice I said friend. If he wasn't a friend I would have never paid him in advance. Well, he's not any longer, but yea it's pretty pathetic.

I don't think it was a contractor, just some dude he sort of knew. I don't think he had a steady job, you know those type guys..

You're just a good tipper.

Pro tip though: You don't have to tip at Popeye's.

No. I've been written bad checks before and had people flake out on them.
Hell I had a check bounce over a year ago and they still haven't paid. Owner's like "sue me" but I didn't not worth it for $300.
Just hope his business fails.

I use to work with this girl who was the most materialistic person I think I ever met. She drove a BMW, always talked about things she bought, came to work one day and was telling everyone that her jeans cost $400..

Anyway, one day she goes on to tell me she had less than $50 in her checking account, it was the day before payday and she was like "well I guess I have to do what I always do when this happens. Go cash a check right after the banks are closed so that I can get cash and then my check will be deposited before they get to the bank to cash it so it will be covered.

Its not really "cheating" the system, but it just caught me off guard. Although it wasn't any of my business I asked if she kept a little side stash of cash for those those times and she laughed and said "there is no way I could have a extra cash around me, I rather spend it".
