Driven through here on several occasions and stopped a few times (not at a bar). Whitey is not well regarded on the Rez.

Lived in Morristown, Tennessee for three years. Small town East Tennessee can feel that way. The strange thing about Tennessee coming from Louisiana is how everyone up here identifies with what county they grew up in. Especially in the more rural areas.

Actually have family there and have visited there several times. While I personally never felt that way, I can understand that people there can be skeptical of strangers.

My dad was a Methodist minister, sometimes shipped from small town to small town in Louisiana on a yearly basis.

You better believe I felt out of place in Lake Providence in 1990 and Many in 1985 and Haynesville earlier.

I have severe social anxiety. That didn't help.

Back then, people wanted to fight you because you weren't from there.

ETA I left out Oakdale. That's not a welcoming place, either.

I would have guessed more than that.
They had a municipal center that I noticed, among other things
I'm a bad guesser sometimes.

Only once. I was riding east of Omaha when I walked into a restaurant, all strung out from the cold, and I felt all the eyes on me as I was shaking off the cold. Most of the time, I don't hear them talk, but other times I can. It's the same old cliche, is it woman or is it man.

Bogalusa with locals, when they had to be there for work a few weeks.

Those mill guys really think they’re special. Weird for a bunch of people that only work there cause their daddy got them a job.

Go to Appalachia, it’s the worst.

I couldn’t agree more.

Me and a few of my Pal’s went on a canoe trip in northwest GA a number of years ago.

We immediately started getting some bad vibes from the locals before we even launched at our put in point on the river.

We just got this weird “sketchy” intuition that not only were we not welcome, but that we were also somehow WAY out of our element as well.

It wasn’t until one of our friends in our group was raped and s0d0mized by a toothless local hillbilly that our uneasy suspicions were truly confirmed, and we realized we were not welcome at all.

By that point you probably didn’t feel much like ridin'…and you just wished the trip was through.

Happened to be in Hildale, UT on a trip.
Wife and I were hitting up Zion, North Rim, etc.

We were in a local grocery store (it was unusually nice with awesome bourbon selection), and it was odd as hell how people were staring. Like in a movie.

Later a fella at the St George airport said it was likely due to LDS people.
