I don’t think it is...I think it has more to do with disrupting normal sleep patterns. I had it more in my 20s ....working nights and sleeping during the day.

Yes, several times in college. (Mostly during mid day naps after all nighters)

Typical when it happens to me. I don’t nap much so I’ll catch myself drifting off to sleep after a long night or long travel day and I get locked up.

Freaked me out the first time really bad. It’s usually following a dream of me falling down and trying to get up.

No, but I do this thing with my hands that stretches and contorts my fingers like a birds beak. I wake up every morning with my fingers sore and hurting. I don't know if something I should see a doc about but it's getting worse as I get older.

Oh my ! You just reminded me of a regular occurrence when I was younger, not sleep paralysis, but scary as hell ! When my alarm clock would go off I would always be thinking or dreaming I was about to be run over by a train. After a few years of this I finally started waking up a minute or two before the alarm would go off. Can’t sleep past 5 am no matter what !

I've had it happen twice. Once when I was around 10 years old. I remember waking up and not being able move anything but my eyes. After about 2 minutes of freaking out internally, I was able to fully wake myself. No shadow figure this time. There was no internet for me at that time either, so I had no clue what happened. Family didn't seem concerned lol.

The next time I was 25, I had a weird arse dream about trying to stop someone from smothering my brother with a pillow. Woke up kinda sharply, but again, could move nothing but my eyes. The difference this time was there was a shadow figure holding what looked like a pillow right at the front of my bed. Took me about 30 seconds of internally freaking out to wake up fully that time.

hat shite is freaky. Hard to tell the difference if you’re awake or actually dreaming.

But laying there staring at the room you fell asleep in and unable to move is an absolutely terrifying experience.

Anyone have this happen and see shite like figures? I would lose my fricking mind.

I suffer from sleep paralysis on occasion. However, I see fully fleshed-out people, not shadow figures. I have posted about it before; it's freaky as shite. I had to move my pistol from my bedside table because I was worried I'd snap-to and end up shooting holes in the wall. It can be absolutely terrifying.

I had no idea this existed until they was a long thread on this board about 5 years ago. And I was amazed by the amount of people that suffer from this.

I'm sure I've had sleep paralysis a few times here or there as far as not being able to move.

I know for a fact I've been enraged to the point of trying to scream and can't voice it out while sleeping/dreaming.

Not sure if that is a form of sleep paralysis or not.

That’s crazy. I’m pretty sure my eyes are shut, but the “dream” I’m having is so vivid that the room I’m in looks and seems real.

I assume my audible sense is also using real-time sounds to make me think I’m awake as well.

I can tell you when I'm in that state...it seems absolutely real. Those of us that out of body experiences that coincide with sleep paralysis...it really does seem like you are leaving your body and floating around your room.

I used to have it real bad. I would wake up out of the paralysis, then I would fall back sleep immediately and have it again. And it would repeat for 15 times a night.

For some reason I stop having it. I’m not complaining.

Well I'm visited often by different shapes. Usually the old hag looks more like a shadow of the girl from the ring. She doesn't bother me that much and I have learned when she throws me off the cliff how to brace. I have had the thrown off the cliff thing by her as long as I can remember and I know for a fact atleast since before I was five. The last couple of years though the fall doesn't bother me.

The only ones that really freak me the frick out now though is the demon animal in the corner and then the devil looking thing at the end of the bed. I usually am woken by my wife when those visit as I am usually praying and screaming about Jesus at it.

But I have learned to control the circumstances in which it triggers these things. Making sure I do not try and stay up when I am tired has cut the incidents down to the very minimal the last few years.

I still get the falling off the ladder and can't seem to control that one and I actually hit the ground sometimes in that one and that one used to trigger seeing myself on a casket after the fall, now I just hit the ground and it physically hurts.

The other thing that helped me was when I was diagnosed with low testosterone and after having kids actually started treating it with the shots. Huge improvement in sleep and the paralysis doesn't come but maybe twice a month now. Used to be almost nightly for 25+ years.

Classic symptoms actually. When I see the demon shapes in the corner this usually happens or I wake my wife up by screaming.

I’ve had it where whatever I was dreaming about I wanted to yell and scream but I couldn’t make a sound no matter how hard I tried. I was just frozen. Scary shite

I got sleep paralysis when I was younger. It only happened when I fell asleep in the car, and only a couple of times a year. I could open my eyes but not move. Would always try screaming at my brother sitting in the car but of course couldn't say anything. I realized after the first few times that if I stayed calm and tried to wiggle a finger, eventually I could regain movement.

Didn't know it was something to even look up until years later I saw an article on it.

Good God man. Sorry to hear that. Have you ever experienced the vibrations or ringing sounds others have described?
