I almost died Sunday night. In the kitchen by myself and my fatty arse was eating a slice of hangover cake.

So, are you going to stop eating cake and work out or what?

About a decade ago had DVT in my calf for a week (thought it was a pulled muscle), one day, calf pain is gone but having trouble breathing, +120 pulse. Call itself friend and she said get to ER ASAP.

Go to ER, multiple pulmonary embolism’s, doc said ai had a saddle embolism (aka widow maker) and am a 1% to be alive.

Never figure out why I clotted up, had another 4 years later in other leg and have been in blood thinners ever since.

I feel into a pond at 2 and my prescription drug addict mom didn't see. A random stranger pulled me out.

I wrapped a chain from a swing around my neck spinning on accident and nearly choked myself out on a playground at around 6. Friends mom had to help me as I almost passed out.

Heat stroke during a summer time game when I was 13.

Acute alcohol poisoning in college.

I think my guardian angels are very pissed off at me

Got thrown out the boat in middle of nowhere on MLK a few years back after breaking ice to duck hunt that morning. Sucked in a ton of marsh water, spent 12-13 minutes working my way to shore with several boneheaded moves along the way. When I finally made it to the bank, legs wouldn’t move, had to drag myself down the bank to find a spot shallow enough I could throw a leg up and roll myself onto bank. Not real sure how long it took to get my feet back under me, it was a slow process. If it wasn’t for a life jacket and kill switch, I wouldn’t be writing this today.

I had to have the Heimlich one time although I didn't start thinking I was about to die.

We were in a restaurant with family and I was eating a cheeseburger. On the first bite the entire guts of the burger falls into my lap. I'm thinking about the shite my sister is about to give me and forget to chew and start swallowing. Like you, it wouldn't come up or go down. I look up and my brother in law is looking at me and I shake my head yes. We both stand up and he comes around the table and gives me the Heimlich and up it came. And then, of course, my sister starts giving me shite. lol

The most dangerous situation was when I was driving home and booking down a paved back road in the rain and started down a hill on a curve with a one lane, low water bridge at the bottom. Halfway down I see someone coming down in the same spot on the opposite side. I don't dare brake so I let off the gas and get over as far as I can. He does likewise and we pass on the bridge. On the way up the other side I realized how close a call it was and I start getting light headed and taste the flow of adrenaline in my mouth. Oooof!

I was about 8, at my Mamaw's house visiting. The old shed on the property had a bike in it. It was a three speed with 27" tires and it was gigantic compared to my Huffy BMX bike.

I decided to take it for a spin and took off down the sidewalk headed towards Government street. That big bike could really fly and I was hauling arse as I approached the intersection of her cross street and Government. There were cars zipping at a good pace down that main road so I grabbed the hand brakes to slow down.

Those cables were locked solid in position, no brakes at all!

I'm rocketing along about to shoot out in to traffic with zero ability to stop, I knew I was dead. At the last minute I swerved towards the stop sign and threw myself at it in a desperate body block motion. I nailed it with the side of my torso and the bike flew out into the street and was immediately CREAMED by a big old sedan. The poor dude never saw it coming.

I just lay there wrapped around that sign post with my heart beating out of my chest, staring at the mangled old bike. Talk about a stark visual of what might have been me!

The guy in the sedan helped get me up and dragged the bike out from under his car. I dragged mit home and confessed to my Mamaw what happened. She told me that she wouldn't tell my parents if I didn't want her to. So we agreed to keep it our secret.

I miss you Mamaw. RIP.

I try my best. Lived there from when I was 5 years old until I was 9. That's when the water park near drowning happened. The other was about 10 years later. I stay on the Alabama side as much as possible.

Not to hijack the thread, but that looks like one of the most isolated places on the planet.

How did you end up down there?

Yep….

The first, I was driving down the highway following a tractor trailer loaded with railroad crossties. Inexplicably one came off the truck and was founding end-over-end in my lane. I distinctly remember putting my turn signal on and switching lanes to get by it. I remember seeing through my passenger window still flipping down the road. Not until later that I realized how bad that could have been.

The other time, I was sitting in my office drinking coffee and checking e-mails and had a stroke. I spent a week in ICU and the next 6 months learning how to talk again.

Suprisingly, neither of these events really upset me as much as nearly stepping on a copperhead snake last fall when squirrel hunting!

4x.

2 tight spots w/ low time pilots in small planes, once shot @ shotgun ( eff you Wibur Riley, you dead convict frick), once offshore when a stand of pipe fell on a flowline where I was standing 2 seconds before.

Lots of car deals, but none really close except when the drunk hit my car.

Boarded a plane at DFW to MSY that was delayed for two hours due to a thunderstorm moving through. Prior to departure, the captain let’s everyone know that there would be no food and beverage services because of the potential turbulence as would be flying over the system that had just passed.
I was sitting on the last row of the right side the plane and the little seat for the flight attendant was on the left side, rear facing and a row or two forward from me.
We hit turbulence so bad that it felt like we had dropped 40-50 feet and hit the floor. The magazines in the seat backs all flew up into the air and on to the floor. Many people (including myself) screamed like little girls.
Because the flight attendant’s seat was facing me, I could see the horror in her face. When a flight attendant gets scared, that’s when I get scared. After it settled the captain called her on the phone in the back of the plane. She says to me “The captain says that was just moderate turbulence” as she rolled her eyes.
If that was moderate turbulence, I’d hate to see severe.
In the concourse at MSY it was like everyone had seen a ghost…terrifying and yes, I thought I was going to die on that plane.
