Yes, Fuel tanker explosion. Will be 7 years Saturday.

Spent 39 days in the burn ICU at Baton Rouge General. While in there had another truck driver come in for a similar incident, unfortunately he didn't make it.

I was in front of an industrial planer with the outfeed at eye level to see if it was cutting, and the tech told me to quickly move. A few seconds later the pss as el inside bound up and a 1/4 inch thick 2x2 panel shot out and across the room, denting a metal desk drawer.

I was a dumb sophomore in high school and went swimming in the Pacific Ocean off the Los Angeles coast during red flags due to dangerous surf. I remember thinking I was a good swimmer and wanted to body surf large waves, since the ones in the Gulf aren't usually very significant. The force of the water was so great that I was getting thrown around like in a washing machine on a vicious spin cycle. I couldn't gather myself before the next wave comes crashing and throwing me around. I called for help and nobody heard me and another wave comes and beats me down. All I remember is someone was carrying me to shore. I respect red flag warnings and rip currents much more now. Doesn't matter how good of a swimmer you are if you get fatigued or unable to breathe

Did you experience anything in those 22 seconds?

I absolutely did. Bright light and amazingly peace. Some will say it was the light in the room while waking up and endorphins but I’ll just say I believe

I had a similar experience in the mess hall when I was a cadet. The irony is at the lunch formation on this particular day they gave a medal to a cadet for performing the Heimlich on another cadet during summer training.

10 minutes later I had a bite of a roast beef hoagie go down the wrong pipe. Self performed the Heimlich by punching myself in the sternum as hard as I could. Once my friends realized what had happened they were "upset" that I ruined their opportunity to get the Soldiers' Medal!

Several times from being electrocuted by 3 phase 480 volts (a few times) to getting run over by a John Deere 4840 hung up in gear that I was working on. Another time a 18 wheeler turned over in a pond while I was guiding him around a corner, cut too close, bank gave way. Front bumper grazed me when I jumped

Every incident walked away without a scratch somehow. Even when the electrical box blew up in my face, knocked me back 6 feet onto my arse.

A few years ago, my wife and I were driving on the freeway going 70 mph. A car was going the wrong way and going about as fast. The car jumps in our lane all of a sudden. I blast the horn and swerve to my right (without looking before). Thankfully the car doesn’t swerve into me and I’m equally lucky that there were no cars to my immediate right.

I believe it was a guy who was trying to commit suicide and fortunately they stopped him before he hit anyone. Shook us up for a couple days after that though.

“A-hole mahogany wasps”

In September last year I was bushhogging and stirred up a bumblebee nest.Bastards ate me up( wife later counted 31 stings on my body,3-4 back of my head couldn’t see because of hair).I put tractor in neutral and bailed off,ran down the trail until they quit stinging me.
I called my wife and told her to get on golf cart and bring me some Benadryl
and water and Epi pen a neighbor had given her.I took the Benadryl and drank some ice water, few minutes I felt ok.I snuck back to my tractor and jumped back on and hauled arse.
Met her back on the trail, told her I was fine,I’m going to do some more bushhogging. She leaves and then decided I might should just go home.
Got home, started itching like crazy, got thirsty so I get out of my lounge chair ,go in kitchen to get some water and the room went black.
Next thing I know I wake up on floor.I had passed out,she heard me hit the floor and stuck me with the Epi pen.My blood pressure was very low but came up in a few minutes. She helped me up and I went and laid down.

Some luck involved or the Lord just wasn’t ready for me.If she hadn’t been home when I was bushhogging.I’ve been off on my tractor many times when she wasn’t home (she was still working 2 days a week then). If she didn’t have the Epi pen an ambulance might not have gotten to me in time since we live pretty far out.

Now I have a passport case I wear around my neck with EpiPen,50 Mg Benadryl(H1 blocker) and Tagamet 800 mg(H2 blocker) when I leave the yard.

8 years ago I had "simple" laproscopic hernia surgery. In recovery I threw a blood clot that went through my heart and should have killed me. I was unconscious for 4 days. On day 7 I walked out of there the most grateful person alive

Was feeling bad for two days, thinking I had bad heart burn couldn't get comfortable or sleep. The third day had a cousin bring me to the emergency room, 40 minutes later had four stents in me. I lost consciousness when I woke up in ICU the surgeon told me they had to shock me twice to bring me back. This was in October of 2020 dealing with hurricane,COVID and a divorce glad that year was finally over

Same as MWP.... was stuck in a hospital room for 3 weeks. Free flow oxygen on 45 twenty four / seven. I kept asking when I could go home. no visitors allowed. One day a nurse comes in and asks me if im a religious person and if I wanted last rights. Never hit me until then that I wasnt leaving the room. Too many holes in my lungs. Hearing that must have turned on fight or flight inside. God is good

Several.

Like most kids, I was a dumbass. Three times I dove into the deep end with no clue how to swim. The first time was at a public pool in New Iberia. I was 6’ish. Climbed up to the high platform and jumped in. Remember vividly sinking while looking up to see if the lifeguard was coming. That was so fun I did it again later that summer at the pink flamingo in Biloxi. Thankfully aunt saw me and dove in fully clothed.

One of the first times I drove over the new bridge I was behind a cane truck in one hell of a rain storm. Had my wipers on high when a piece of cane got stuck on my windshield completely knocking off my wiper. Drove the rest of the way off the bridge to the nearest exit with my head out the car so I could see where to go.

Leg pressing heavy and went to far down. Not a soul was in the gym. Had a hard time breathing so gave it all that I had to get it high enough to lockout. Didn’t die but did have torsion and leading to a orchiectomy.

Pulled under my carport during a storm and as I was getting out lightening struck the corner of my house. Literally knocked me off my feet back into my vehicle. Whitest brightest light I’ve ever seen. Fried damn near ever electronic in my house. From tv’s to appliances.

Mom was driving us over the new bridge, again during a storm. We were in the center lane. To the left was a vw bug. As it started to pass us, it had a blowout on the passengers front tire causing it to cut in front of us barely missing us and hit the guard rail head on.

Rolled a car into a canal. Was knocked out during the roll and when I woke up I was up to my chest in water. A guy was outside his house when it happened and thought for sure I had died.

I almost drowned in high school at the river with some friends after a week long end of 3 a day practices. Got caught in the current and cramped up. Long story short, the Good Lord spared me that day.

Yeah. Went septic after a surgery and fell into a coma for a few weeks. Doctors didn't know why I went comatose, and never managed to figure out why, but apparently the outlook was dim. Staff were having conversations with my family about the possibility I wouldnt wake up, as they had no solid theories why I was even in a coma.

Anyways, 9 years older now, and the experience changed my life dramatically for the better, so maybe there is a reason for the shite we go through. Probably not, but hopefully it builds character, at least.
