I remember as a kid thinking there’s no way gaming systems can get any better, and then suddenly Sony came out with something called the Playstation and minds were universally blown.

Takes up less space in your pocket.

Battery tech.

Doubt that'll improve. They COULD improve it, but the inability to hold a charge is usually what gets people to upgrade out of what is otherwise a perfectly viable phone. Imagine if a car company made a car that never broke down or wore out. They'd go bankrupt.

Plus as cool as all the music apps, etc., they don’t multitask well. I use my old one for music at tailgates and home so it frees up my main for actual phone stuff.

No. We still need to fit in a laser projector. Also a laser measuring tool.

They need to work on bringing back the hole. I mean headphone port. Unless some Silicon Valley nerd wants to create a smart phone with a fake hairy hole with incognito mode enabled by default.

With the evolution of 5g the next big thing will be no local storage. It'll all be cloud-based. Oh and projectors are going to be a big thing

In 1889, Charles H. Duell was the Commissioner of US patent office. He is widely quoted as having stated that the patent office would soon shrink in size, and eventually close, because… “Everything that can be invented has been invented.”

I'm still using a S10. No need to upgrade.
The new phones have better cameras and more space if an iPhone. Androids have expanding storage usually.

I just upgraded my S7 edge to a OnePlus 9, meh. Its faster, but nothing really different about it.

I don't really care about phone cameras, the sensor is too small for doing much.

My uncle is 92, and has always been fairly current with technology. I enjoy our conversations about when he was young, and I’ve often thought how wild it must be to have lived through all the changes that he’s lived through.

Consumers have gotten complacent and the companies do not want to risk innovation.

There’s lots of areas smart phones can go, but this thread represents the mentality of the customer.

Foldable screens and standard peripherals are probably the current evolution. Compact devices that expand to “full size” computers/screens with keyboards, etc.

I think wearables and implantables will be the future once people get past the dystopian ideas from movies. Being able to use the smartphone without actually having to use. Google Glass was ahead of its time. AI, VR, and AR are the big changes of the future.

Still have some features that haven't been invented yet that would be cool.

Over-the-air charging
Zero ports
Internal cameras (no external lenses)
Color changing phones
Nearly unbreakable glass
Portable projector tech

My iPhone 5 (which still works fine) can do anything my 13 can

This is dumb…
It’s like saying my Commodore 64 can do what my MacBook Pro can. Yes, they’re still both “computers” but one will work infinitely better than the other.
