Don't attribute to maliciousness that which can be chalked up to incompetence.
Too many people are reading on phones, and almost nobody picks through threads that are more than a page long. I usually try to avoid topics which last more than a page (outside of travel or tech) because it's hard to follow where it started, where it's gone, and how it got there.
