Probably. Thank goodness for that short-term memory loss.

Yes drugs have cost me a lot. About a decade after getting out of graduate school I got to making a good bit of money and got to playing around with cocaine way too much. I made dumb arse business decisions at work and it ended up costing me my job. After about a year I lost it all and gave that shite up. I pulled it together and got another good job but that year of fun when I was 38 cost me millions. I didn't need rehab or anything like that to clean up but damn that white powder sure caused me some problems. I'd probably steer clear of coke if you make a bunch of money.

Short answer ..Both..It started out as recreational and a way to gain acceptance with the weed. When I moved on to cocaine, I couldn't get enough of the euphoria. I was still able to function successfully and never felt more "like the man". I found temporary completeness in the drugs, gambling, sex etc. Once I hit the crack pipe it was all she wrote. I could no longer function in public. Paranoia overwhelmed me but the chase of the next hit consumed me. Looking back, I realize how fortunate I was to have been raised "in the church" and to have the "head knowledge" of what was available through Christ. Unemployed, living in squalor and completely alone, I had been using the crack to self medicate and escape the reality and guilt of the cumulative negative affect my actions had on my family and people who loved me. Long story short, I answered the altar call at a church service I happened to be in. As I was being prayed over, I felt the Holy Spirit consume me and the head knowledge moved to my heart. I mourned over my past sins (Matthew 5:4) for the next 12 hours and felt the darkness inside me exit my body and be replaced by the Light. I prayed Psalm 51. I stood on the Word "He will cure you of your disease..He will separate you from your sin and remember them know more". I became fully saturated in the Living Water. This is the good news of the gospel..."too good to be true, too good to pass up". Now I do my best and am truly inspired to walk fully in His grace, fully understanding how fortunate I am. I am the million dollar debtor who has been forgiven (Luke 7:36-50)..And finally Joel 2:25 "the Lord will restore what the locust have eaten away"

Would love to sit down and hear more on this subject from you. You seem like a true believer which I find are hard to come across. I'm more use to the people that try to use God and Jesus only when they need them, which annoys the piss out of me.
I call them situational Christians and they basically made me shy away from the church or all religion for that matter. At a young age I was already so dumbfounded with the average "Christian" and how they lived, that I doubted God and the powers his followers claimed, very early on. These doubts have effectively prevented me from having any belief or faith in a higher power what so ever.

i basically wasted my 20s due to my opiate addiction... i was a very high functioning addict, but it was time to stop running and face the issues i needed to face...

the day it all came to a head could have been much, MUCH worse, and i've skated on some pretty thin ice in my professional life, but i've been very lucky, despite it all...

Yes, and I've never taken an unprescribed pill, smoked a joint, or consumed any other illegal/controlled substance in 50 years of life. The personal, emotional, and financial burden on me because of the drug use of others is immeasurable.

People who abuse drugs are the most self centered assholes on the planet. If you can do it without affecting anyone else, have it. But you can't, so you're a terrible person if you keep using. Even "just" the pot heads.

Wow, a downvote already? Likely a user who refuses to accept that his/her behavior doesn't negatively impact anyone else. Typical narcissist.

Percocet hangovers have to be as bad as Icehouse/Southpaw hangovers.

ain't perfect, never claimed to be. But I get to suffer from the drug use of others, even though I've decided not to partake.

Of course, in your world, I'm somehow the bad guy.

I understand how this happens. After experiencing the transformation in my own life, I do not /will not let others, whether christian or non believer, have any negative impact on my personal relationship with Christ. There is too much at stake...eternity is a long time. Believing in God just based on empirical evidence to me is indisputable. If there is a creation, there is a creator. Just the placement of the earth in the perfect spot where the sun wont burn it up and the moon wont freeze it is proof enough..and Im gonna follow the only man who died and then rose from the dead (as prophesied many years and times before) and His ascension witnessed by many afterwards.
Peace..

no...quite smart actually.my family has seen firsthand what hardcore addiction will do.my grandparents spent the golden years fighting and getting their bank account drained by a crackhead,so thankfully that kept me from ever partaking in the hard stuff.

I guess you're right. Leaving the office every day to drive to an acute care facility to get in the one hour a day visitation.
Driving hours to a rehab facility to make the one hour a week family visits.
Walking in the doors of the ER over and over again, hoping she wasn't dead this time.
Having to look at an empty chair at Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner.
Sitting in the parking lot watching the windows of the hospital unit hoping to get a glimpse of her still alive.
Having some drug dealer threaten to kill me in the parking lot of a hospital.
Standing over said drug dealer shoving a .357 in his mouth with tears in my eyes.

Yeah, I'm a retard. frick you and your life.

I've always had a positive experience with drugs.

Except this one day/night I drank all day, took 2 Xanax bars, 4 percocets, an X pill and did about 2 grams of coke.

That was not a good night
