Sounds suspicious to me.. Probably already had issues with money, but they found a way to blame someone else..

Agreed. Something doesn't add up. Did she not have a multi-year lease after "invested everything I have into this building" that was owned by someone else?

Agreed.

The owner has my full approval to do whatever he wants with his property.

But it's still a shitty way to treat a tenant.

There is a go fund me.

Apparently there was a dispute about April’s rent. Landlord pushed her out.

Sounds like there was possibly a gentlemens agreement on a 5-year lease, but the landlord only produced a 1-year lease.

Bad business decisions from the restauranteur. Should have had a solid lease before sinking money in.

Going to say this too…the renovations the restaurant did to the interior of that place was hideous. It felt like a modern European restaurant inside with a lot of grays and blacks. It looked like the the coffee shop it was before was a better fit for the historic building.

I’m sure the building owner wasn’t happy with the hideous new interior.

Being a former lefty and still having a lot of lefty pals...

Something tells me she is lying her arse off about her entire situation. If I had to guess, she did all of this knowing she wasn't going to be staying in business anyway, so now she can make excuses, insult the people in the city she lives, and do anything but be accountable for her idiocy.

Yea saw the wall of text above after my post, definitely not a sound business decision to not have everything in writing before sinking a considerable amount of money into a business. Regardless of her beliefs on the original subject, if there is truth to what was posted I hope she wins her suit against the landlord.

You didn't have a lease signed already? Wtf.

Now she's asking for money to open up a new place.

Haven't read the whole thread and didn't feel like reading that wall of text above.

So this woman sunk tens of thousands into repairs and upgrades BEFORE actually signing a lease????

And the Landlord is now kicking her out because the AC broke?

I deal with CRE leases every single day. None of this adds up unless both of these parties are regards with no legal representation (which is entirely possible).

If this story goes national and international she will have more than enough money. She may have the last laugh. All it would take is for some media outlets to pick up the story and paint it as a backward Louisiana town hates LGBTQ+ people.

Her getting more than enough money is possible.

Anyone who attempts to push this sort of behavior or events on children should be shot.

Having said that, I see no reason to penalize adults.

A drag brunch isn't my cup of tea.

But I do attend the rocky horror show in new orleans every halloween. It's a great time. For adults.

She was behind on her rent. The business failed due to her woke decision and Biden inflation. And no one sabotaged the AC either.

The a/c story does sound like bullshite. Call an hvac company and they're not leaving until it's fixed. A switch was off and the company didn't see that? Smells fishy

The TL;DR for this story is that she was struggling to pay her rent and the drag brunch was a last ditch effort to bring in business.

That's not true at all. Just read the fricking room.

If I had a place in Muslim centric Dearborn MI, I would close my doors everyday for prayer. If I had a place in Jackson MS, I would make damn sure it offered waffles and chicken and Dodge Challenger parking. If I had a place in New Roads LA or Gulf Shores AL, I wouldn't hesitate to name it The Angry Elephant.

For the record, I go to Gulf Shores every summer for two weeks, I love fried chicken and waffles, I was in the National Guard in New Roads a lifetime ago, I own a Dodge Challenger, and I prefer Tonk to Bouree. And I voted for Trump.

It sounds like the owner was delinquent on her bills to the land owner and is using this as the line for why he forced her out. Don’t have an issue with an adults only drag show. But it sounds like there’s more at play than that only.

If the owner had a current lease, then the rent can’t be increased until the term ends. If the owner was behind on rent, then I can see the payments being increased to make up the difference.

If the customers who loved the drag shows wanted the place to stay open, they should’ve convinced more customers to come eat.

People entranced by drag shows and trannies make up a small percentage of the population. If the owner’s business plan revolves around catering to that small base, it’s their own fault.
