One dog was a bit of a biter if you got in his face/took his bone. Was from a bad home but was great otherwise. He’d warn you though. Other dog legit wouldn’t hurt a fly, I would do everything to him and he’d only come back with love

I have a german Shepherd and he hasn't done that. He has played a little rough and I had to calm him down but never bite. If your kids get super hyper/run around that's when I find something like that most likely to happen because they want to play too
I had mine who would do a very loud bark and not really bite buy maybe nip a bit - almost like herding and usually only when kids were screaming and running around, etc.
I don't have kids so it wasn't something he was used too.
He did bite (again more of a little nip but one that actually made contact and left a little mark, but not a the kind of bite a shepherd is capable of) a couple people on the arse in his lifetime. One because the people I would leave him with would just let him hang outside and so when they had visitors he was protecting his house (even though I repeatedly told them that they couldn't have people drive up onto the property if he was outside by himself, he needed to know that person was allowed there).
The sort of nipping and herding again was mainly just when kids were running around screaming and all that (can't blame him and it usually worked to get the kids to shut up after a couple loud barks at them). I kept a pretty close eye on him around young kids after the first couple incidents.
No other bites but he was aggressive towards dogs he didn't know that would get into his personal space and towards the end he and our other older dog would get into each other over food or I think also just bumping into each others arthritis, etc. Other than that, no problems with the dogs knew were in his pack.
I think he could have been fine with other dogs if it was one that I felt the need to introduce in the right manner. A couple walks with both dogs near each other, hanging out in an outdoor area where they have space, etc. until he was used to them and knew they were supposed to be there.

I think most dogs in general will snap at anybody if you move their food bowl while they’re eating.
They shouldn't, I had a very dominant shepherd and it is important early on to move their food midway through eating and make them wait so that kind of behavior doesn't start.

Pit lab mix. She still hasn’t attacked anyone despite what the OT cult swears by.
Our condolences to your balls, since they’ve been removed. Does your wife proof read your posts too?

Had a 7 yo catahoula (junior) that was deaf, but he started to lose his vision. He got startled easily and a little nippy at my small kids.
Had to put him down
Had to put him down

Ya when the are older and can't see / hear well you have to be careful not to surprise them in the wrong way. Its just a natural defense reaction but if your kids don't understand they can't act the same way towards the dog it would be a difficult situation

I’ve had two boxers. Always around my active children and the whole gang of neighbor children (ages 2-11) and not one time has either one of my dogs come close to snapping at or biting one of the kids. I know there are other breeds that are good with kids but these boxers are something man

To me their is a huge difference between a snap and a bite. My dog nipped my boy when he climbed in her dog bed while she was sleeping. I didn’t really consider that a bite but more of a correction.

He was an awesome dog. Just didn’t see anyone lining up for a 90 lb deaf dog that was going blind. Would have been great for a college student, but potentially dangerous for small kids. Hence my name on TD

Kid (2 yr old)fell on my lab when she was half asleep once. She snapped him in the face. Slight red mark on the cheek.
Dog was persona non grata for a week or so.
My 2nd kid grabs her ears and stuff and she puts up with it. If she is sleeping on the floor though, we tell the kids to stay away.
If it was a pit, my kid wouldnt have a face. Moral of the story: be careful with small kids and dogs of any breed, but most breeds will have minor consequences for altercations. A handful of breeds have potential horrific consequences.

Know how I know you don't have a Pit? My kid WWE wrestles with mine daily, and she's never even come close to snapping at him, she just wants to play.

I have Pugs. When they do things like that, it's hilarious.

Some time ago, ours snapped at our 3 year old. He was gone before the weekend was over.

Is that by chance a Ferrara? Or maybe a Pierce?

tell the kid to stop fricking w the dog then teach kid how to approach a dog

Guy I used to work with adopted a full blooded German Shepard. It snapped at his kid a couple time and proceeded to put a bullet through the dogs head. Not even trying to train it just too damn lazy and executed the dog. My opinion on this guy changed greatly at that moment.

Yep, Westie who has bitten everyone of us at some point. The difference is, when the Westie bites you, it simply scares you and may leave a mark. When a Pit bites you, you die.
