The social justice warrior movement has had an effect. People are afraid to say stuff that will offend someone these days, and it has spread to online communities. Mods will had out warnings or bans.
It's sad, but most everyone has curbed what they say now. Some stuff you obviously shouldn't say, but people's personalities are being stripped from them because overly sensitive people can't handle it.
