Has the FDA charging distilleries for making hand sanitizer been discussed yet?

The frick is this shite?

quote:

When There Wasn't Enough Hand Sanitizer, Distilleries Stepped Up. Now They're Facing $14,060 FDA Fees.

Distilleries just learned that to cap off a brutal year, the FDA is charging them a fee normally reserved for drug manufacturing facilities.

Nothing surprises me anymore, but this is just ridiculous.

Well, they sold sanitizer & earned a profit so, I don't see a problem with it.

Why don’t people just wash their hands with soap and water? WTF was up with the hand sanitizer fetish in the first place?

If any are still making hand sanitizer, quit making it immediately and then simply ignore the FDA fee request.

You can carry it around in your pocket and clean your hands without the need of water or drying them off afterwards.

Do the right thing and you still get penalized. It's the American way.

I like the idea of the FDA. The execution has been horrible for the most part. I guess that's how most government agencies are anyway.

Making a product and selling it for a profit is the American way, nothing to do with the "right thing".

You didn't, hence the phrase "Way to poorly summarize the article"

We need a good purge. Of the federal government.
You would think the feds would make an exemption for this particular case.

I agree it's ridiculous if "IF" the assertion from Bergh that “Even if you created only a few gallons or donated all of it, you’re on the hook for $14,000,” That's a bit excessive but I haven't confirmed his statement yet.

But, if a distillery donated all of their sanitizer to the community out of kindness, then set up a gofundme and get that same community to help you out, out of kindness.

This is a good lesson on why you should always capitalize on your investments. One of the local breweries around here started selling sanitizer for $14/ gallon back in May. They only needed to sell 1,000 units to pay the fee. Everything else, minus overhead, is going into their pockets.

From the article:
quote:

More than 800 distilleries pivoted from spirits to sanitizer, offering it for sale or in many cases donating it to their communities free of charge.

In summary, don't do for free, what you can do for money.
