If you still have an old 12 volt lighter it will work in newer cars.

I just checked Amazon and for $6 one can buy 2 brand new automobile cigarette lighters with free shipping.

We used to use the car lighter late in the day on the 4th of July and New Year after we ran out of punks. I may still have some fingertip scars from handling those old lighters.

ETA: I still remember conversations amongst the adults about the dangers of power windows like my Aunt and Uncle and my parents and grandparents about how many people would drown if the car ran off the road into water due to the battery/windows shorting out and not being able to manually get the windows open.

I’m 65… what do you think??? You think everyone here is 25????

I'm now 72 and the very first car I bought to drive was a 54 Plymouth Plaza. That car's windows could be hand cranked in less than 3 turns and a lot faster than any electric window I've ever had since.

On a similar note, my now 74 yr. old sister-in-law once showed her grandsons an old rotary dial phone and told them to dial it to call her cellphone number. They didn't have a clue how the phone worked by using the rotary dial--------------and she thought that was both funny, and sad at the same time.

Not only did I get to roll windows up manually, I was blessed with a small triangle window for my only air conditioning

I remember people always having their windows down all the time. AC in the car or truck would go out and nobody cared. The heater always worked though. I never see people riding with the windows down anymore. Yes rolled up many a window, it still feels classy to me holding down the button.

Sure. Hell, I rolled up a window with a pair of vice grips because the handle broke off.

Damn, you beat me to it. I had a 66 Chevy II that I just left the vice grips on all the time

I didn’t have a car with automatic windows until 2011. True story.

Better question on Reddit or tictok? The OT Avg age is probably 40 compared to 20 on those. Most of us have lived life before complete automation and social media. I'd say to answer your question on this site 99% have.

My old man had one my last year of HS. I loved driving that thing. Real shame he got drunk and wrapped a guard rail around it. POS.

I have a 2000 Ford Ranger with manual windows. 17 y/o (no pics) got in and asked "what's this for?" pointing at the handles. Couldn't help but laugh.

Dead battery or bad starter?. Have your buddy help push the car or pickup to around 5 or 10 mph, jump in the drivers seat, pop the clutch in first gear and the engine starts right up. If you’re lucky.

Might take a few tries, no fun in August afternoons but got you by until your teenage arse could afford to fix it.

I have one similar to that. It belonged to my grandparents and works fine as a charging station for my various devices.
