hardest school to qualify for scholarship athletes is stanford. 3.0 gpa with a 24 act, 3.5 with a 21 act, etc
Wtf. Even my bum arse could pull that off.

I ran a 4.4 but didn’t play football.

The South has been breeding these superior athletes for a long time. Now they are getting paid handsomely.

Went to h.s. with a dude who was a 5 star RB... class of 96. Was gonna be Lawrence Phillips replacement at Nebraska. Never saw enrollment in Lincoln. From Florida, so I assume no SEC school was able to get him in either.
I had an unweighted GPA right under a 3.0... was offered academic money to an ivy league school. Right under 1400 sat, state record holding swimmer
Standards are dropped for athletes in all sports, even schools who technically don't give athletic scholarships. I know I didn't deserve an academic scholarship to an ivy. It was kind of embarrassing and uncomfortable to be catered to like that.
You can probably guess our skin colors based on what position/sport we did
We were both offered opportunities beyond what we had earned in the classroom.

quote:I had two guys on my HS team that were that fast. Neither played a down of college ball. One probably couldn't qualify for a good kindergarten, the other made straight As. Both were small guys, maybe 160lbs.
Has anyone that can run a 4.4 40 ever been denied admission to a SEC school??

Name one premier recruit--5 star--denied admissions to a SEC school because of academics.
It may be happening but I doubt it.
it
does
happen
admittedly, none of those guys were 5 stars, but Stevenson was.a top100 player in the nation (still, very high rating), and Phillips was at an SEC school... so, as you can see, it happens... however with "special exemptions" being a thing, don't expect it to happen too often

Was it Noel Divine (WVU) that was a highly rated recruit but wasn’t going to qualify anywhere but then suddenly got into WVU or I’m I getting that mixed up?

Jerry "I bought a star of David because they call me Jue" Juedy qualified. Eddie Lacy. JaMarcus Russell. Etc. There are plenty that are dumb as a rock and would never get into these state institutions without transferring in from smaller places. It is what it is. But we watch it and the university profits on it. So with the current arrangement, its hard to criticize and be a hypocrite. Them lecturing us is hypocritical too but they don't care.

Even the guys at the top academic schools take the easy degrees possible. I think Richard Sherman was a communications major at Stanford. Some guys get masters in easy degrees like sports hospitality. I would think at least the guys who are backups or at small schools that know they don’t have a shot at the NFL would get more important degrees. But I’m sure the majority of them don’t either.
