From an article published last fall:

quote:

The first phase of the Nicholson Gateway is still under construction and is set to be complete by next fall, says LSU Foundation spokeswoman Sarah Whittaker. Phase three of the project is set to begin in 2019 and will demolish several 1960s-era residence halls, including Acadian extension, Broussard, Herget, McVoy and Miller halls, replacing 2,000 beds with new residences near the University Recreation Center.

I was there 5ish years ago. Definetly the nicest place at the time. Study environment was fine, they have a few study rooms in the hall. It was convenient to have some teacher's offices there too. It also has a computer lab which helped with the ISDS computer class. It's a pain in the arse to do on a mac, but you can use the pc's in there. Good luck to him, and Geaux Tigers.

Broussard instead of Blake makes a lot of sense. Blake was renovated within the past decade and was the nicest dorm my freshman year in 2011.

Somehow the Pentahood will live on

there's probably something tied in with being a historic area...

my big thing for a win the Mega Millions type of donation would to clean out Hatcher, Hodges, and Johnson, add a couple of more floors and make them dorms again...loved living there!!!

That's what I thought. It's got an awesome courtyard. It's one of the few dorms I never actually went inside of but it seemed fine. Maybe they just don't need that many dorms with all the new ones going up and they have a better use for the space. It's right by Pentagon (which is probably only staying for its historic connection to the old campus downtown, because it is easily one of the shittiest dorms) and WCA.

ETA: Assumed on my own and from a previous post that Pentagon is much more a part of the original fabric of this campus. I'm glad it's staying. The others came in the middle of the century and are farther from the nucleus. And on top of that they aren't even in LSU's actual architectural style.

ETA2: Broussard is stylistically but maybe because it's further away they don't need it anymore.

I lived there my freshman year. Was the best dorms on campus at the time (2009). Don’t know about now if others have been renovated. Everyone will have most of the same classes so there are opportunities to study with classmates. For the most part I could never concentrate on studying so most of those study sessions didn’t get much accomplished but it was the most fun year of my life.

I think the Pentahood is on the list for renovation in a separate financing program for the old historical dorms.... same as Annie Boyd and Evangeline (currently toe up).

Man I'm gonna miss Broussard. I made some great memories there in 2009.

The Pentahood was a charming shithole when I was there. Certainly were a lot of weirdos there.

Coming down this year, supposedly.

I left some DNA in that building.

RGJ, I probably know you from freshman year. After reading your post I had the exact same experience as you did. I loved it but definitely should have taken more opportunity to utilize the study sessions a little better haha
