Years ago, I have personally also had a job pulled while waiting for background to come back, so my policy is....I do not have the job until everything comes back and it's official.

Same, whenever an employer asks me for my start date I always say two weeks after all the paperwork goes through.

My last one just took 10 business day from submission. They told me upon submission that 90% are returned in 24-48 hours, some take longer depending on local offices and how automated and timely they are. I obviously fell in that 10% of ‘taking longer’.

Recruiters will lie like a rug to get you in the interview. Most of the time the recruiters are not in sync with the hiring company, they just move warm bodies in.

You should not have ever brought this up. They may not have even seen it if they were pulling only the State you were working in.

Most use an online service and do One State the job is in- and not national. Only if you were getting let's say, a pass to get on a military base as a contractor do they do national. And they do not care about anything but felonies.

Civilian companies will get picky anty nervous like dweebs.

Where did the guy leave it? If you speak of it again do not give details. Only speak of it if it is brought up and then say is was a misunderstood misdemeanor that didn't even go any where.

Okay.

So you've voluntarily:

-Called the police (get arrested)
-Disclosed unneeded information on an application (probably wont get hired)
-Posted all the above on a public forum (get trashed deservedly)

Let me tell you this for (at least) the second time.

You have the right to remain silent.

I like GN. But you nailed it. The next thread will be because his new company saw that he has a WiFi- Trump Won and posted non Biden politics and they will suddenly let him go.

He will claim they are wrong (they would be but such is life right now) and there will be three pages telling him it was a company computer.

Golden Nugget USE your work computer for WORK ONLY and don't use- Trump Won as your WiFi connection. Use- Biden is great Imma tranny- and you will get dozens of raises.

Do not talk politics EVER do not share your personal info with anyone at work, they are not your friend they will backstab you to butter their bread.

I also use this strategy and just had to deploy it. I’m retrospect, I should have adjusted my starting week but I didn’t and now things are planned for that week at the new employer. So who do I piss off, old employer or new employer? Easy answer, old employer. Did kinda suck though to give a weeks notice.

Sad, but true. I avoid all talk of politics at work and shut it down immediately when it starts on our ongoing Teams communication. Talk about your for, your cat, your spaghetti, that’s all fine but the vaccine, politicos and SJW issues are off limits. I’ve shut down many conversations about the last election, Jan 6th, George Floyd, Chauvin trial, etc.

You never quit your other job or start signing leases based on only a verbal offer. Always, always, always wait until you sign the offer. Nothing is official until you sign the offer.

I've been through job changes involving a background check several times. They all wanted me to sign something with a start date two weeks in the future and then start the background check.

So, the choices I faced were 1) wait to give notice at my current job, and end up giving them more like 1 weeks warning than two; 2) ask for a later start date to (hopefully) allow for two weeks notice AND a completed background check; or 3) act under the assumption that the background check would be clear.

I always took approach 3, and I agree it put me at risk, but the practical alternatives have their drawbacks as well.
