If you have did it work and what was it for? I'm highly skeptical of hypnosis but would like to try it just to see if it actually works.

I use to go to a psychologist once or twice a month years ago who would hypnotize me for about an hour each time. She would go through a relaxation routine to calm my anxiety. I recorded several sessions so I could play back in the future to calm anxiety if needed. These recordings worked very well if I woke up during the night and had trouble getting back to sleep due to mental anxiety.

These sessions lasted for about 6 months. I noticed after each one I would be very calm and relaxed. I haven't used the tapes in about 5 years and still sleep like a rock. My mind has become very adapt at blocking out mental chatter thanks to these hypnosis sessions. If mental chatter starts. my brain switches to healing, soothing, nurturing, thoughts.

May sound crazy, but it has worked for me.

I have been hypnotized for smoking cessation. It worked. All people can't be hypnotized. Drunks and people who resist suggestions are among those.

I worked with sports psychologist in my early twenties. One often used a hypnosis technique. Like some one already mentioned it was more like a relaxation treatment. There was no black out, no out of body experience. It was a lot of relaxation and visualization. He was one of two people that worked with most pro athletes in the Philly area at the time.
I would say most people got what they wanted to get from it. If you played a sport that relied on muscle memory or repeating the same exact movement repeatedly it was very helpful if you were open to the experience. I enjoyed it, and learned quite a bit from two of the sports psychologists that worked with us. Again it wasn’t so much about emotional stamina or confidence it was about concentration more than anything else.
