If you’re not convicted yet you can get in. Once you are? It’ll be difficult

Salmon fishing trip two years ago set up by my insurance broker. We landed at customs on a sea plane in Victoria and they nabbed a guy with us for an old DUI. He had no idea that it was even on his record. Sucked for him as he had to go back to Seattle while we continued on to an area around Stuart Island and caught a boat load of salmon over the next 3 days. They are very tight on entries yet condem us for wanting to close our border.

Serious question. How would they know, do they have access to US criminal records?

Just walk in.

They do it on both our borders.

Kind of crazy as a citizen you are trapped in your own country. But anyone without papers is free to travel in and out.

I’m being serious, one of the terrorists they caught came in from canada. Just walked over.

Yes. I had a buddy who was questioned at the border in BC over a conviction that had been expunged.

An old boss of mine has been denied entry to Canada because of a conviction for stealing a STOP sign in Louisiana.

Canada does not mess around.

drove across the border at Vancouver a couple of years ago, I was surprised at how pissy they were, downright assholes as a matter of fact, coming back across we were pretty much just waved on through

Canada is a fricked situation for Americans. They harassed every American getting off the plane in Winnipeg. They’ve fricked with me while transiting through Toronto to the point I think I said, you understand I’m not in your country (airport rules, not geography), and don’t intend to be, right?

Spent way too much time explaining my itinerary, every time. One of the border guards in Winterpeg gave me his card and told me to warn him a few days before each flight back to that Mecca of suck. During interviews they’ve asked why I have most of my IRA in X company (not a stock but like “Vanguard” or some shite). Australia is the only other country that’s come close.
What

I've traveled to Canada probably close to 20 times the last few years and most of the time they don't even look at my passport I just walk on through

I've had zero issues entering via airport, always been very pleasant and expeditious

Certain border stations have notoriously shitty guards. They will harass you just to harass you.

I got held up for an hour for obvious sarcasm.

I wasnt even talking to the guard. In fact I dont know how he heard me.

I certainly understand how frustrating it can be working with idiots all day though. I imagine they do get pretty frustrated.

there was a story of some British celeb entering Australia a few years back, he was being a prick, the officials asked if he had a criminal record and he responded by asking "why? is that still a requirement here?" he got to spend a few extra hours sitting in a room and meditating over his choice of humor

Completely different experiences flying in for work (5ish times) and flying in for a vacation (3 times).

Always a pain in the arse traveling for work.

Never had an issue. I heard American oil workers get a hard time from Canada Customs In Edmonton and Calgary. “Why does your company need American workers and not local Canadian workers?” How the hell should I know.
this I quite interesting to me. I work in the oilfield in Canada but not out west I’m on the East coast and have never experienced that

Don’t know the answer to your question but why go on a cruise in the winter? Especially Alaska?
