I am praying every day that our new president lives up to the pledge of cutting Obamacare, because it has ruined health insurance.

Even if the mandate gets whacked your total cost is not going down that much.

This thread makes me extremely grateful for my employer-subsidized insurance.

FWIW, if you're under 30, you can purchase catastrophic plans that let you avoid the penalty. You should look into that if you're going to pay the penalty regardless.

damn, so that's why I can't find catastrophic plans.

I'm married. 36 Combined income around 80k. She is a part time teacher, I'm self employed.

The cheapest bronze plan I saw for us together was $700 ish.

She has a plan and I don't right now. I'm gambling that April 2018 that ACA will be repealed and there will be no penalty.

Seems like being married makes it even harder to find insurance.

She can go full time in August and would then have insurance and I could get on that plan.

Politically I have changed a lot in the last eight years.

I used to favor single payer as well.
I used to have socialistic thoughts. I was younger and dumber then. Once i started paying taxes and all, I realized that in many ways you conservatives were right all along.

If she already has a plan, you can get a single bronze plan for $315ish.

here is my new issue though. I go through the exchange. Get to where I can get the pdf explaining everything and I click and get a "sorry we are experiencing difficulty" message. I call the number, and am told to leave a number and they will call me back.

This has been going on since the 15th. when they call me back I'm never around a computer, so i just ask to send me the plans I can get. But then when I try and select it messes up again.

Can I buy the plan direct from the seller and skip the damn healthcare.gov site?

$315 isn't that bad. I'll gladly do that.

Glad to see you're the type of person who can change his views after being presented with new evidence. So few can. Kudos

I'm not much help on the specifics where you actually purchase the insurance. I tried to help my parents and it was a disaster on the healthcare.gov website.

I don't know if you can purchase it directly from the provider, but I got that quote of $315/month using an Ascension parish zip code, $80k household income, and married, non-tobacco 36 year olds. It was only a quote for single coverage though.

Try going here and running a quote. Once you've done so, you can select the plans for more information and you may be able to contact them directly to purchase.

well, I relaxed. decided to cancel my application. Reapplied. Filled everything out. Then found the shitty plan for $280 and got it. The $500 plan had co-pays but I did quick math and saw that I didn't really save much. This plan I selected limits my maximum expense to $6800 should something happen and costs around $3360 a year.

I don't know why everything worked this time but it gave me hell for so long.

I got this one at $280 a month.

Humana
Humana Bronze 4800/Louisiana HMOx

I feel a lot better now, that's less than my car insurance.

judging from post to post, it took exactly 15 minutes to apply, pay my first month and be insured. Had it worked this well the first time I wouldn't have bitched so much.
