ETA -

My anger was directed mainly to an error I was getting on the exchange. After trying again, I got Bronze coverage. All is good again. Was just venting. Thanks for the replies and such.

To me it has just gotten so unaffordable under Obama. I was paying $350 a month which wasn't that bad, but now it's $680 for the same plan. I'm at a point were I cannot get any kind of breaks and $680 seems crazy when my only issue is Hypertension. The meds are cheap and I go to the doctor maybe once a year and a specialist isn't really needed. Unfortunately the socialist structure of our government fines me if I freely choose not to have insurance.
I would like to just be able to see a doctor once a year, maybe a co-pay on a specialist and have my liability limited in case of a major health event.

I am praying every day that our new president lives up to the pledge of cutting Obamacare, because it has ruined health insurance.

My current plan is to go no insurance. pay out of pocket. Any major health events over say $30,000 and I will just claim bankruptcy.

Of course I don't want that, but taking the possible hit against my credit in the future seems a better deal than paying $8400 a year for something I don't really use.

Que?

ETA: Are you talking about the penalty? I mean, you're going to have to pay the penalty (at least one more year). It'a an IRS fine. Not a credit dispute.

Yep. Last time I went to the doctor for something (not including regular checkup) was four years ago. Screw paying $300/month for a service I never use.

no. I'm saying if one day I get a heart attack and have a six figure medical bill, I'm going to just go bankrupt.

That would destroy my credit, but I would be alive.

I've got a good Blue Cross plan through work. My employer was paying 100% but its gone up to where I now pay $40/ month. Better than most peoples apparently.

Been doing this ever since Obamacare was implemented

I've saved almost 20k by just paying the fine.

Got it.

And no, there is no good solution for you. Even the cheapest Bronze plan isn't really "affordable", and with the deductible, it's basically just a ridiculously expensive catastrophe policy.

If I was young, and in your shoes, I would do the same.

The plan I had before didn't even pay my doctor, I still ahd to pay that. So I was paying monthly and still had to come out of pocket for the doctor. I started going to this local clinic because they gave you $50 off for having a valid card, and you could see them same day. My assigned doctor was some foreign guy from India I could barely understand.

There are so many small neighborhood clinics that everything short of a specialist I could go there. The ONLY reason I really wanted insurance this year was I have four wisdom teeth I need pulled and I wanted to go to an oral surgeon and not a dentist.

but but but.... the happy people on the commercial say I can get insurance for under $100 a month.

I had an individual plan through BCBS before this assclown of a president went dicking with things and it was $185 a month. Once Obama care kicked in my plan was going to be $620. I have good health currently and only require a check up once a year. Was not paying that much for some leach to milk the system off me. Thankfully I was able to get on my employer's plan and I pay a third of what Obama wanted.

Good luck with this brother, this legislation is doing more harm than good for the hard working american.

I was paying $500 a month for Cobra the last 10 months. it ends on the 31st from my last employer.

current employer will pay 50% so I will shop around today. if I don't get any deals I will most likely just pay the fine and wait to see what happens with healthcare this year.

Not a bad idea in reality. If you have to go to the hospital for any reason, they have to take you and treat you. Insurance or not.

I'm self employed. I at first thought ACA was going to help me out. Make it easier to get insurance.

Instead I spent hours of my life on that horrible site. Other sites seem to not want to give you estimates in Louisiana.
Then had my first plan just stop writing policies here, my second plan jump up. Anything major I need and I'll just go to Thailand or Cuba.

I would rather die than pay for some porch dweller.

ETA: If I had a wife and kids of course I would be paying.

What are you going to do when you have a stroke/hear attack ?

Why not carry a high deductible plan like $10,000 for catastrophic events

Well, i would hope that you wouold get kicked out of the hospital once your money ran out (even mid-surgery), but that will not happen. SO, I hope you are forced TO PURCHASE INSURANCE IN STEAD OF STICKING THE REST OF US "PAYERS" WITH YOUR EXPENSES WHEN YOU HAVE A HEART ATTACK.

That sure sounds like some great plan there to get out from under your own responsibilities.

How large of a physician network do you have with them? I've never managed a physicians office where I've had a contract with them. But from what I've read, its set up just like commercial insurance. Contracts, claims, remittances, etc...

In what city/state/area do you use it?

Really? It's his "responsibility" as a citizen to purchase a consumer product from a private entity?

The fact that EMTALA exist does not validate a mandate to purchase a shitty product.

Yeah, and I'm guessing they're all unemployed and have been for some time.
