I was standing on the edge of my toilet hanging a clock, the porcelain was wet, I slipped, hit my head on the sink, and when I came to I had a revelation! A vision! A picture in my head! A picture of this! This is what makes time travel possible: the flux capacitor!

From what I understand, the process for patenting an item is pretty expensive and also pretty complicated, so you'll probably need to go the route of enlisting some help with it.

my one piece of advise that I learned in school at LSU and that is to document your idea very well (in writing and with drawings, etc.) and then seal it all up in an envelope and mail it to yourself. keep it sealed with postmark intact as dated proof of your idea.

from my experience, due to the expense of the patent process, marketing, etc., your best bet is to sell the idea to a company that can handle all of that in exchange for some rolalties on the product.

I just realized that "lose" is spelled wrong on this mat.

I got something going right now. It works great on the first prototype. I figured it will cost about $12 a unit and sell for $50 a unit. Gotta get cost down some kinda way. Plus I don't think the audience will be big enough to make $$$

I have one failed attempt also. My chapdixxx company fell flat on its face. I guess not too many people with chapped dicks.

File a provisional patent now, while you're still in the idea phase. It's not as involved as a full patent, and it will buy you a year of protection while you work on the full patent.

I'm listed as an inventor on two patent applications that are currently being reviewed. Both of those come from working at a university that technically owns the intellectual properties and handles all the legal stuff.

The U.S. changed its patent laws from first to invent to first to file in 2013. Patent law is even more of a rich man's playground even more now.

Yeah me and a friend were making stuff out of his machine/fab shop when the Cajun craze was hot. It's a pita and costs a good bit. Shop foreman had a good idea and tried to sell it to a company for royalties but they wanted money up front too. Haven't dealt with it since laws been changed so I guess I'm wasting both our time, but I'd get temp and test market and go from there.

I swear to god that my father and I back in 80's were watching his new child (my half sister) crawl around on the floor and pick up random items and try to stick them in a light socket.
We had to hop up and stop her from putting something metal in the slot

Over a couple of beers we talked about how a plastic covering to baby proof would be awesome right now so we would not have to do such things.

Of course we talked and never did anything about it.

Such a simple idea can literally change the world. Everyone has those now. I'm not sure if the inventor is rich or what but all I know is after I had my own kids and was able to buy such technology we had a conversation about it again and realized we missed the boat on a great opportunity.

I've never had an idea patented, but my old man just received a patent a couple weeks ago. Took about 2-3 years (and who knows how much $) to get it.
