My favorite is when the lady asks if you’re ready for the confirmation number and reads it real slow and you keep saying ok like you’re writing it.

Occasionally for flights and car rentals. I had one for a flight earlier this year, "CND1CK."

A few times I've needed to check status of purchases and the confirmation number was required.

Hotel said they never heard of us. But we had a printed page with confirmation number on it.

Even with that, the first desk worker and first manager were no help. The second manager actually had sense and found our reservation.

Without that paper and number, we would have spent the first night getting arrested for destroying their lobby.

What I can't figure out is, I pay my $50 water bill to the local water company - and I get a 50 digit confirmation number, meaning there are enough available confirmation numbers for every person on Earth to be a customer of the local water company at the same time.

I transfer $5,000 from savings to checking between separate banks. Confirmation number: 32.

No. They can usually find you easily by name and telephone number.
