we get calls from time to time about employees who leave on bad terms and typically don't say much at all...basically just verify employment dates, etc. it is amazing how much you can say without saying a thing, though....

Yea I agree. He might of been with the company a month when all that went down. The only thing I could think of was spreading the decision over as many people as possible. I don't think many people will miss him. It just made me think, today, how common I'd blacklistING people.

As a manager he definitely wouldn't get a good reference from me after making a scene.

You would be surprised what people will tell you when you call former employers. I had one guy talk to me for 25-30 minutes about a guy I was considering. Most of it was good but I just let him talk and he gave up some dirt as well.

I had an academic official threaten to blacklist me but I'm not sure how that's work. Said he'd "ruin my reputation." One of the absolute most terrified I'd been. Sometimes I wonder if he actually did do something.

I had a toolpusher tell me back in the day when I quit mid hitch as a roustabout he was gonna "black ball me from the gulf". I was working again in 2 weeks.
