That was the previous 12z, the 00z does not corroborate that.

The current 12z Canadian does indeed bring it towards the LA Coast as a TS.

I am on the total other end of the spectrum on this. I think the media should act like it's going to be as bad as possible. I don't understand why people get pissed about preparing for the worst. What if they were to say ahh it's no big deal, everyone stays, and 1,000 people die or are without a place to go for weeks.

We're about to hit low tide in south texas... look for storm surge reports to start to roll in as the tide rises and the storm approaches. should be starting to get pretty high in about 2-3 hours.

high tide will be around 7 pm

People are going to bitch regardless.

I can guarantee in 5-7 days we'll have posters on here who bitch about Harvey being a dud while people 60 miles of them will have received 30"+ of rainfall and serious flooding.

Long story short, people are stupid.

Yeah. Those are the recon plane observations for each pass across the storm. The lowest pressures and location of lowest pressure are shown with the dot and millibar pressure like 947.

the problem is some people interpret any severe forecast as a play for ratings

there is some of that going on with The Weather Channel, but when the NWS and your local governments are sounding the alarm, they don't care about ratings.

Of course the media overhypes everything, but it's hard to tell which storms are catastrophic and which ones are "meh" before landfall. Sometimes they weaken before landfall. Sometimes they don't

Yeah I hate that as well. It's like they think the news is just for their neighborhood.
