Since NHC now has this ability, why not start issuing advisories? We're within 72 hours of at least minimal impacts to the US coastline. Seems like waiting until after crossing Yucatan will give people even shorter notice.

Ehh, the problem is it won't be a hurricane this evening, and people simply don't give a shite about a tropical disturbance.
This is a good example of why the potential tropical cyclone warnings are a good addition this year.
Friday night is probably when impacts start to ramp up. NHC can issue PTC advisories tomorrow giving people basically 3 days to prep. Also, despite 00z model agreement of a Texas landfall this could still not develop or end up in Mexico. A lot of uncertainty still but the high end potential is something to watch.

ETA: 00z corresponds to 7PM CDST and 06z corresponds to 1AM CDST

I was able to confirm, that wasn't him posting. It was someone pretending to be him.
Well way to ruin the fun, GEAUX!

I am going to take a wild guess that the folks showing up for National Guard drill this weekend will be held hostage until storm passes just like last time.
What a frickin waste.
What a frickin waste.

People are totally unprepared, Harvey has been dismissed as no longer a strom, and it's gonna hit before the weekend.
I think the new NHC "Potential Tropical Cyclone" advisory packages were created for situations just like this.
