52 Minute "Podcast"

Just started, this might be a new platform for him to get more content out to us.

Now, he's not trying to say which would win in a straight up fight, he's trying to broach the topic of which was better in their days.

I feel like technological advances alone in fighter planes and tanks was so immense that it has to be WW2 Germany.

Check out Epic History TV as well. Watched the WWI video yesterday. It’s very good.

He's not making the case for which would win in a fight, I think it's which military was better in their day.

His hardcore history podcasts are the best. Not many people can hold your attention with just their voice but he is one of them. The Wrath of the Khans is incredible along with his WW1 podcast.. Thanks for posting.

I mean...obviously the German Wehrmacht in WW2 was more advanced...they built on the prototype of the German WW1 army.

Now...for the time period...the German Army was using pretty much brand new tech...stuff that had never been used in a general European war.

Plus it’s easier to like the WW1 German army.
I honestly thing that the world would have been a better place had Germany not been stopped at the Marne and the Schlieffen Plan had succeeded.

The war doesn’t get prolonged and chew up as many lives. The Communists maybe don’t take over Russia. No Depression to enable Hitler and WW2...I don’t see the downside

Dan carlin says himself that WWI was the beginning of the era that each future generations’ army (WWI, WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Dessert Storm) would defeat the previous generation where as for pre gunpowder the bests could be debated and even the gunpowder armies up until WWI could be compared.

He also says that WWI Germany was so far better than the contemporaries that it is the best army ever. Where as the WWII Germans were better, but not by as much as WWI

Also shows how an army, no matter how good it is, can be beaten by supplies and logistics.

I’d say WW2. They had most of the world powers allied fighting against them and were a few strategic mistakes away from possibly conquering Europe, Russia, and parts of the Middle East and Africa. Hitler pushing into Russia and getting his army caught unprepared for the Russian winter is what turned the tide of war in the Allies favor

Where does that leave Great Britain at the end of it?

Eta: Fwiw, I agree with you on that.

At least Haig isn't made out to be a hero.

Haha should've seen that coming.

Probably more important, if Germany does win WWI and wins it quickly, I don't think the US ever becomes the biggest, baddest dog in the world.

I think i’d Honestly be okay with that.

The sheer amounts of dead arising from that conflict, and the resulting conflict, would be a good enough exchange for a slightly slower pace of our rise.

Plus the destruction of Europe and so many historical sites wouldn’t happen.

Not to mention the Middle East doesn’t get fractured down arbitrary lines so maybe we don’t see the endless conflicts there because they remain under a strong thumb.

Idk, I don't think the Ottoman Empire lasts very long into the 20th Century. Kinda like you said no communism in an earlier point, but Russia had already had multiple uprisings to thwart in the years before WWI. How sure are we that Russia makes it very long into the 20th Century as well?
